    A man has been arrested over a burglary in Boughton last month.

    A car was stolen during the burglary, which happened in Swinton Copse on 12 February.

    The 20-year-old was arrested yesterday and has since been released under investigation.

    It will be held in public at Nottinghamshire Police headquarters at 10:00 on Monday.

    Mansfield Town have warned people about a scam in which someone claiming to represent the club is offering football trials on social media.

    The club’s head of media and communications Mark Stevenson said: "This offer is fraudulent. The club would never request a fee for a potential trial.

    "Anyone who believes they are a victim of this scam should contact their local police force."

    The club has also said that neither first team manager David Flitcroft or academy manager John Dempster are on Facebook or Twitter.

  7. Midland Mainline electrification just 'the first step'published at 15:57 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2019

    The government has announced plans to electrify the Midland Mainline up to Market Harborough.

    The Department for Transport confirmed that Network Rail has been instructed to design an extension of the line from Kettering to the Leicestershire hub.

    Maria Machancoses, director of Midlands Connect, said: "Extending Midland Mainline electrification from Kettering to the national grid supply point at Market Harborough is the first step towards giving the East Midlands the transport infrastructure it deserves."

    Looking forward to the future, she said the next steps would be extending electrification to Leicester, Toton and Nottingham to support possible HS2 services through the region.

    Plans for widespread electrification of railway lines in England were previously scrapped by Transport Secretary Chris Grayling in July 2017.

    The parents of a three-year-old boy who has a rare spinal condition are calling for access to a drug that could help him walk again.

    Aadi Wilson, of Oadby, Leicestershire, has spinal muscular atrophy (SMA).

    His parents Mark and Panna have joined families calling for Spinraza to be made available on the NHS.

    Mr Wilson said: "Aadi is a bright, funny, clever toddler, but his mobility has deteriorated, and that's difficult to manage as a parent.

    "There is a treatment that could change our life."

    Clinical regulator NICE, which had not recommended the drug, is due to meet on Wednesday to discuss the issue.

    SMA is a genetic condition that causes muscle weakness and progressive loss of movement, as well as difficulty breathing and swallowing.

    NICE will publish a draft recommendation within a month.

    One lane of the A38 southbound is currently closed following a crash between a car and a lorry.

    The crash happened at around 14:20 today between Kingsway and Markeaton.

    Police have said nobody was injured in the crash.

    The Highways Agency and the fire service are also in attendance.

    President and vice-chancellor of the University of Leicester, Paul Boyle, has stepped down after five years in the role.

    He will take up a new post as vice-chancellor at Swansea University.

    Professor Boyle said: “During my time at the university we have achieved, together, a huge amount.

    "I am grateful to all our staff and students for the hard work that has allowed our university to progress in so many areas."

    The university has begun the process of appointing a new president and vice-chancellor.

    Simon Fisher, a builder from Ashbourne, is ready to play for the Up'Ards.

    The 30-year-old told the BBC he'd been playing since he was 15 and scored eight years ago in a "euphoric" moment.

    He said: "There’s no real feeling that comes close. Probably having children and getting married, that’s probably as close as it gets. It’s something you dream about as a kid."

    He's been training for today's game with about 100 boys and men ranging from 12 to 65 years old.

    Davina Harrison, 61, and her 91-year-old dad Nick Blood have come out to watch the Ashbourne Royal Shrovetide Football game.

    They'll be supporting the Down'Ards - the team from the south of Henmore River.

    Davina said: “I was brought up with the game right from an early age, dragged along by my mum, about five years old probably, to watch it.

    “The women play a part by shouting encouragement.

    “In the middle of the hug mainly the women stay away because it’s so fierce and it takes a lot out of you. I’m carrying water today because the lads will be so exhausted.”

    Four people appeared at Derby Crown Court today charged with the murder of a man.

    Lance Martin, 24, was found with serious injuries in Normanton on Thursday but later died in hospital.

    Kerian Bareham, 30, and Francesca Butler, 23 - both of Portland Street - and Jamie Butler, 42, and Clara Butler, 21 - both from Marlborough Road - were all remanded in custody.

    They are due to appear at the same court on 17 April for a plea and case management hearing, with a provisional trial date set for 19 August.

    His impressive performances so far have left many Foxes fans clamouring for Youri Tielemans to be signed on a permanent deal - but it could take a record fee for that to happen.

    The Daily Mail have reported that Leicester City will have to pay £40m, external if they are to make the 21-year-old Belgium international's loan move from Monaco permanent.

    Tielemans is currently on loan at the King Power Stadium from the Ligue 1 side, following a January move which saw Portuguese international Adrien Silva move in the other direction.

    There's very little which can get between a fanatic and Ashbourne's Shrovetide football.

    Food manufacturer Duncan Burnham, 48, has been coming to the matches since he was 21 and even the birth of his newborn daughter didn't stop him.

    Mr Burnham said: "My daughter is 10 years old now and she was born the day before Shrove Tuesday.

    "I actually managed to get a day off to come down.

    "I left her in hospital to come down to the football, so I’m a very keen follower."

    He has travelled from Burnley today with his partner, 43-year-old Helen Dickinson.
