The application is to be debated at a planning committee meeting to be held on Tuesday 12 March.

They said this could clear up whether the business would negatively impact the town centre or not. Planning officers have again recommended approval.

The application, pitched by Ashbourne pizza chef Benny Morabbi, would see the site, in a part of Union Street known locally as The Channel, filled with slot and quiz machines.

Nearly 80 residents have objected, fearing a rise in anti-social behaviour and that children, who use the route to walk to school, could be encouraged to gamble.
