    Two men have been detained, external after 38-year-old Lee Marshall was stabbed to death at a party in Bulwell last year.

    Adam Ward received an eight-year-sentence in a young offenders' institute for manslaughter. Aaron Aziz was given a 12-month suspended sentence for assisting an offender.

    After sentencing, Det Insp Richard Monk said: “This is a tragic case which highlights the devastation caused by carrying knives.

    "One man has lost his life and two young men have had to face the consequences of their actions – had they not involved a knife in the altercation, I have no doubt it would have been a very different outcome.

    A Thomas Cook store in Market Harborough - the former home town of the firm's legendary founder - is among 21 earmarked for closure.

    The travel company said it had started a consultation with staff over the shop closure plans, which would see 102 customer-facing jobs cut.

    Thomas Cook, a 32-year old cabinet-maker, had the idea of selling organised trips, during a walk from his home in Market Harborough to Leicester in 1841.

    It led to him organising a successful one-day rail excursion from Leicester to Loughborough. It became a major business that helped to popularise package holidays.

    The Market Harborough store, in St Mary's Place, was not his first high street shop though. This was opened in Fleet Street, London in 1865, external.

    Children and parents are protesting over plans to make a "hugely popular" school headteacher redundant.

    Edy O’Connor is currently in charge of Swinford C of E Primary School near Lutterworth, which is part of the Diocese of Leicester Academies Trust.

    Parents have recently been informed of a proposal by the trust to replace him with an executive head responsible for at least one other school.

    Campaigners have accused the trust of not putting the children first: "Rather than putting the best interests of the children first the parents and carers think this proposal is about the church wanting to make money out of schools."

    Donna Moulds, chief executive of the trust, said: "It is important that we make decisions that will ensure that such schools continue to grow and succeed for generations to come.

    "The challenges and pressures that all schools are facing at the moment are, however, unprecedented. Changes to how schools are funded are having a tangible impact."

    An 18-year-old man has been jailed for eight years for killing a father from Bulwell.

    Lee Marshall, 38, died in hospital after being stabbed in the buttock during an argument with Adam Ward at a house party in the town last year.

    Ward, 18 and from Watford Road, Nottingham, was found guilty of manslaughter at Nottingham Crown Court earlier this month and detained in a young offenders' institute.

    Aaron Aziz, 29, from Melbourne Road, Nottingham, was given a 12-month suspended sentence after being convicted of assisting an offender.
