Dominic Liptrot, from Lost Art, restored the bronze sculpture, pictured last time it was broken, and said he thought it was damaged when somebody tried to swing from the arrow.

"We did put a bit of extra strength in it thinking somebody could try to do something but obviously not strong enough to take the weight of someone swinging on it," he said.

The city council said it is committed to repairing and maintaining the statue.

    East Midlands Today

A Nottinghamshire police officer has been found guilty of assault by beating after grabbing a man's dreadlocks and pulling him from a police car.

Loughborough Magistrates' Court heard the confrontation took place as PC Matthew Thompson, 40, was responding to claims of domestic violence at a house in Caxton Road in Nottingham in July.

The court heard Mr Thompson had arrested a man and put him in the car but was then warned he was using his phone to summon friends to the scene.

The arrested man told the court he was pulled from the car and hit eight or nine times, resulting in a fractured eye socket.

Mr Thompson countered that his actions in removing the man from the car were legal, necessary and proportionate.

After viewing bodycam footage, the magistrates found the officer guilty of assault by beating. He was released on unconditional bail and will be sentenced on 30 April.

  9. Mike Ashley's revised Debenhams bid rejectedpublished at 08:06 British Summer Time 9 April 2019

    BBC Business News

Debenhams has rejected a new £200m offer from Sports Direct, made in the early hours of today, to pump money into the troubled department store.

Yesterday the retailer turned down a similar proposal from Mike Ashley's Shirebrook-based company to put £150m in.

The new offer was rejected by Debenhams' lenders after Mr Ashley continued to insist he was to be the firm's chief executive.

It would have seen the company underwrite the raising of £200m by issuing new shares, higher than its previous proposal.

Instead, Debenhams is expected to go through a pre-pack administration, which would mean current shareholders - including Mr Ashley who owns nearly 30% of the chain - would be wiped out.
