Specialist contractors are being brought in to remove asbestos which was dumped on a road outside Worksop.
A number of bags were fly-tipped on Ollerton Road, a lengthy stretch of which remains closed on the advice of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Simon Greeves, leader of Bassetlaw District Council said: "The reality is that the HSE quite rightly take the removal of this particular substance very seriously, so making sure we get the right contractors in to make sure that it’s removed in the right way, in the best interests of everyone’s safety, is the best and right thing to do."

Plans for a large roundabout on the A52 in Ashbourne have been approved to help support traffic relating to the redevelopment of Ashbourne Airfield.
In total, 376 houses and 20 acres of business space has already been approved on the former airfield.
Phase two of this project would see another 1,100 homes built and a further 20 acres of business space.
Summing up the application, David Arnold, the council's head of planning, said: "I have no reason to doubt that there is a need for this development and it will allow the expansion of the airfield.
"I am satisfied that the impact will be minimal. I believe the benefits outweigh the limited negative impact."

A waiting room at Matlock bus station is being put up for rent as a shop.
This comes seven months after Derbyshire Dales district councillors opted to find new uses for several of its public toilets and buildings.
Councillors and council officers had consistently referred to ongoing issues with vandalism at Matlock bus station and particularly in its waiting room.
They said that the waiting room, built in the mid 2000s, was rarely used and would be best used as a shop.
Councillor Steve Flitter said: "I fully support this, the building is in a terrible state and needs to be put to good use. We have to give the site another chance."
The 682 sq ft waiting room is now on the market with estate agent Salloways for £15,000 a year.

A pub landlord who owed £7.9m in taxes has been banned for 11 years from running a company for submitting inaccurate tax returns.
Kirpal Rathaur, 51, from Nottingham, was banned after an investigation by the Insolvency Service, prompted by his company entering into voluntary liquidation in November 2018.
Mr Rathaur, who was director of Edward & Moore which ran nine pubs in Nottingham and Derby, has been banned from promoting, forming or managing a company for 11 years from today.
The investigation established that Mr Rathaur caused the company to file inaccurate tax returns between February 2010 and November 2014 and removed it from the business tax list in March 2015, building up £7.9m in unpaid taxes.
Martin Gitner, Deputy Head of Investigations, of the Insolvency Service said: "Directors cannot pick and choose what taxes they want to pay but this did not deter Kirpal Rathaur from avoiding paying business duty that he rightfully owed."

A Festival of Derbyshire is being planned to help boost the county's tourism industry.
The event would celebrate a series of key cultural and historic anniversaries for Derbyshire including the 70th anniversary of the Peak District National Park and 20 years since Derwent Valley Mills became a World Heritage Site.
The county council has said it would help promote Derbyshire to national and international audiences.
Tourism is worth £2.1bn to the local economy supporting 29,000 jobs directly and indirectly.
It's hoped a Festival of Derbyshire may replicate some of the success Yorkshire has enjoyed - after hosting the Tour de Yorkshire it's seen record numbers of overseas visitors.
