A man due to catch a flight today may have to do so without his suitcase containing vital medication - after it was left on a train that was evacuated due to massive disruption.
Delays to services were caused by record-breaking temperatures and damage to overhead electric cables.
Andy Allbut-King had a "nightmare" journey from Leicester to Gatwick Airport yesterday, eventually making it to his destination at 23:00.
The 51-year-old, from Narborough, Leicestershire, said: "What should have taken four hours turned into 14 hours.
"Yesterday was a total fiasco, total bedlam."
Mr Allbut-King had booked a hotel close to the airport in order for him to catch his flight to Benidorm - which had been delayed to this afternoon.
"I did hear about the warnings [not to travel] but I decided to travel because I was going on holiday. Everything was arranged for me to travel yesterday.
"Otherwise, I would’ve gone down today and I would have maybe missed my flight."
Mr Allbut-King is still waiting for East Midlands Trains to deliver his carry-on suitcase to his hotel, which contains his epilepsy medication.

Rail passengers are being urged not to travel between Nottingham and London this weekend as disruption is expected to continue.
Cancellations and delays to services were caused yesterday by damage to overhead wires at Belsize tunnel, near West Hampstead.
The operator said: "Network Rail are on site trying to repair the extensive damage."
East Midlands Trains said if people followed advice and did not travel over the weekend, they could use their tickets next week.
They are also eligible for a full refund if they choose not to travel.
The route is expected to fully reopen on Monday.

There is confusion surrounding the release of results from Shirebrook-based Sports Direct, after the firm failed to publish them early on Friday morning.
In a statement, the retailer said it was "still finalising" the results, but anticipated publishing them on Friday.
It is extremely unusual for results to be delayed in this way, and one analyst called events "an utter shambles".
The full-year results have already been delayed once - originally they were due to be reported on 18 July.
In a short statement released on Friday at midday, Sports Direct said: "We are currently still finalising our preliminary results and will update you again at 14:00."
The firm had earlier apologised after delaying the release of its results and cancelling an investor presentation at the last minute.

Derbyshire County Council has issued the warning, affecting Adam’s and Osborne’s Pond.
The Environment Agency has put measures in place to contain the contamination, using boom and absorbent mats.
Paul Reeves, from the agency, said: "We have stabilised the situation for the time being."
An investigation into how the diesel was able to enter the ponds has been launched.

Thirteen groups in the Midlands have so far paid nothing towards the body designed to boost trade and business in the area.
The Midlands Engine, made up of local authorities and enterprise partnerships, was set up as an equivalent to the Northern Powerhouse.
A Freedom of Information request shows councils - including Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Stoke-on-Trent - have not made either of the two annual £20,000 payments due since.
BBC Radio Derby understands they do not see the point of the body, but none of those approached for comment have responded.

It may only have been a few days of serious summer, but Severn Trent has assured customers there will be no hosepipe ban this year.
The company said yesterday's record temperatures led to more than two billion litres of water being used but the system "coped well".
Reservoir levels were also holding up well, currently at 87%, compared to 71% at the same point last year, officials said.

A team from Bakewell went to Calton Lees car park, near Chatsworth, and found two disposable trays left smouldering.

"Only use designated barbecue areas and ensure it’s extinguished with no burning embers before disposing of it."

Passengers have been evacuated from a train service between Luton and London.
Andy Allbut-King was heading from Leicester to London to catch a flight but the train he was travelling on stopped when overhead electric wires became damaged at a tunnel near Kentish Town.
He said: "A cable above our train, carrying 50,000 volts, broke and thrashed against the windows, terrifying passengers.
"Been sitting here now for over an hour with no water, no food - air con doesn't work."
The train has since been evacuated.
Mr Allbut-King said all the luggage, including his holiday suitcase, had to be left on board.

It's been a total scorcher today and temperature records across the East Midlands have been broken.
The hottest-ever temperatures were recorded in Derbyshire and Leicestershire along with a new record for July in Nottinghamshire.
In Derbyshire, highs of 34.4C were recorded at Coton-in-the-Elms, eclipsing the previous of 34.1C record set at the same location in 2006.
Gaddesby, Leicestershire, saw temperatures of 35.4C, compared to a previous record high 35.1C recorded in Leicester in 2001.
In Nottinghamshire temperatures reached a scorching 35.6C in Sutton Bonnington, almost two degrees higher than the previous high for July of 33.9C in Watnall in 2015.
However, it fell just short of the all-time hottest temperature of 36.1C, recorded in Clarborough in 1990.
