    Traffic has been heavy in a Nottingham city street as new gas and electricity works begin.

    Lanes in Canal Street will be closed over the next two months while the "essential" work is undertaken, Nottingham City Council said, external.

    Western Power Distribution has begun electrical upgrades in the street, while Cadent will be replacing gas pipes between Castle Boulevard and Carrington Street from 9 March.

    The gas network firm say they are liaising with Western Power Distribution "to minimise disruption to motorists".

    Despite the lane closures, two-way traffic will be maintained, the city council added.

    A Derbyshire school is reopening after being shut at the end of last week after a parent was diagnosed with coronavirus.

    In Belper, a couple are awaiting the results of coronavirus tests after self-isolating after coming into contact with a confirmed sufferer.

    Their case emerged after they took to social media to reassure neighbours who had seen medical staff in white suits visiting their home.

    Belper School has also asked three of its teachers to stay at home as a precaution but their cases are not being linked.

    Two horses have died following a crash involving a van and another vehicle.

    Leicestershire Police said the horses were loose on the A6 near the junction of Kettering Road, in Market Harborough, when they were hit at about 06:40.

    Two people were treated for their injuries at the scene by East Midlands Ambulance Service and the vehicles were made safe by the fire service.

    Road closures are in place at the junction to the B576 near Braybrook and the junction to Kettering Road and the A4304 roundabout.
