Volunteers are searching for two more kittens dumped by a busy Leicestershire road, after two were rescued.
The tiny animals, thought to be only five weeks old, were spotted on a verge near Barwell on Thursday.
Carol Rabaiotti, from the Cats Action Trust, said: "That bit of road can be like a racetrack so we had to move fast.
"We spent five hours in the rain, crawling through a hedge, and managed to get two.
"Two more are still there but we couldn't get to them - but we haven't given up.
"It's shocking and heartless these cats, clearly domesticated, can be left in the cold and wind."
The rescued kittens are doing well but Ms Rabaiotti said: "They should all be together."
They asked no one else come to the area as more people might scare the other animals away.

Motorists are being warned to keep bulky items secure in their cars after a water tank was found obstructing traffic on the M1 in Nottinghamshire.
Highways England said traffic officers were alerted to reports of an obstruction on the carriageway near Junction 27 at about 18:00 on Thursday.
The tank was empty "and could be quickly dragged to the side of the road", a spokesman said, but with more than 46,000 items found on England’s motorways and major A-roads in a 10-month spell - including a washing machine, a double-glazed door, garden sheds and a ship’s mast - drivers are being advised to check their loads are properly secure before setting off.
Quote MessageFortunately nobody was injured in this incident but the tank could have caused a distraction for drivers and forced vehicles to swerve out of the way.

When Nadia Whittome won the Nottingham East seat in last December’s General Election she stood very much behind her leader Jeremy Corbyn.
But Labour, as their new slogan goes, is under new leadership.
So when she went through the voting lobby with Jeremy Corbyn and the other 16 Labour MPs in defiance of their party whip, it was inevitable her position on the first step towards the Labour front bench would be sacrificed.
She had been the parliamentary private secretary (PPS) to Shadow Health Secretary Jon Ashworth and was sacked in a phone call from Sir Keir Starmer’s office.
Nadia Whittome voted against the Overseas Operations Bill she says because it would make it harder for veterans to take legal action against the Government or for war crimes to be investigated.
MPs, she argues, should be able to vote with their conscience.
The whole issue of military veterans is one politicians are very sensitive about. Labour abstained in the vote because they believe although it’s flawed there is a chance of amending it later on.
