    BBC Leicester Sport

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has joined the chorus of disapproval over the proposed European Super League.

The Foxes boss said the plan "looks very much a purely business proposal" and pointed to Leicester's famous title win in 2015-16 as an example of "what can happen in the game" when sporting merit is rewarded.

In a press conference ahead of Thursday's match against West Bromwich Albion, he said the announcement came "as a surprise to everyone", and also discussed his pride at leading Leicester to a first FA Cup final in 52 years, saying it was "a victory for us all".

The M1 in Derbyshire has now reopened after a lorry collided with an overhead power line, leaving more than 1,200 homes without power.

Western Power Distribution said the crash caused an 11,000 volt circuit to trip, with sparks landing on the motorway embankment, causing a fire.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the blaze was now out.

Police said no-one was injured and the motorway, which was closed in both directions between junctions 29 and 29a, reopened at about 14:00.

A cat that went missing for three weeks has been discovered trapped in a wall cavity at a house in Derbyshire.

Molly's owners had been moving out of the Glossop property when the moggy vanished last month.

They made several return visits to try to locate her but neither they nor the new owners were successful.

But on 14 April, the new owner heard a meowing sound and it dawned on him the cat was stuck in the wall cavity near the kitchen ceiling.

It is thought Molly had squeezed through a gap around a waste pipe in the kitchen and climbed up, only to find herself trapped.

RSPCA inspectors and a fire crew had to remove floorboards to rescue the stricken cat, which was hungry and thirsty but otherwise unharmed.

Molly has now been reunited with her grateful owners and is settling into her new home, the charity said.

  15. Residents 'appalled' by series of Chaddesden Wood firespublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 19 April 2021

    BBC News Online

Firefighters have warned people about the impact of woodland fires following a spate of outdoor blazes in a Derby wood over the past three weeks.

A spokeswoman for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said it had dealt with 12 fires at Chaddesden Wood since 29 March, included one where an oak tree was damaged.

She said the fires not only hurt wildlife and damaged trees but also could delay crews getting to more potentially life-threatening emergencies.

A local resident who didn't want to be named, said: "We are appalled, annoyed, saddened that anyone could deliberately try and damage and destroy such a beautiful tree and woodland.

"We can't comprehend why they would do it. The impact on the local wildlife will also be significant with so many birds nesting at the moment."

  18. Road blocked by fly-tipped building wastepublished at 16:51 British Summer Time 19 April 2021

    Samantha Noble
    BBC News Online

A road in Nottinghamshire was closed this morning after fly-tippers blocked it with building and roofing materials.

Police and council officials were called to the pile of waste in Westhorpe, in Willoughby on the Wolds, shortly before 07:00.

Resident Laura Affleck, who runs a local community Facebook page, said: "It's really disheartening that people would so this. People are really angry about it in the village."

Rushcliffe Borough Council said: “We were alerted to a report of building and roofing materials fly-tipped between Willoughby on the Wolds and Wysall early on April 19 that is requiring a short term closure of the highway."

The authority said the waste was cleared and the road reopened at about midday.

Sgt Brett Price, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The dumped waste posed a potential hazard to other road users so a road block was put on at Westhorpe, Willoughby on the Wolds, as work was completed to clear the debris.

"Potential evidence was collected and passed to the council for further enquiries.”

Wendy Eggleston,52, of nearby Thorpe-in-the-Glebe, said there was also fly-tipped rubbish - including a shed roof - left outside in the middle of the road outside her home in Wymeswold Road last night, which her son had to move before he could get past.

    "It's disgusting - I'm angry," she said.

"I can't believe people do that these days when we have the tips. I know they are busy and you have to book, but it's ridiculous."
