    A woman working on a reception desk at the Royal Derby Hospital has had her handbag stolen containing cash, a designer umbrella and a mobile phone.

    Police said it happened at about 15:00 on 20 April when the woman stepped away from her desk on ward 216.

    A man is thought to have taken the bag and was seen running away by another member of staff.

    Police investigating the theft have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to.

    Masked men, armed with metal bats, have forced their way into a house to steal a bulldog puppy thought to be worth about £3,000.

    Nottinghamshire Police said they were called to a report of a burglary on Vickers Street in Warsop just after midnight.

    Those inside the house were threatened and one person was assaulted but no-one was seriously injured, the force added.

    The group of men are thought to have left the scene in a silver Jeep Cherokee.

    Det Sgt Jackie Price, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This is a serious incident that will have undoubtedly been terrifying for the people in the house.

    “The group’s brutish behaviour will have caused a lot of noise in the local area and we are asking for anyone who may have heard or seen something suspicious at the time to come forward."

    A car meet with more than 100 vehicles was broken up by officers in Hucknall last night.

    Nottinghamshire Police said the car cruisers had gathered on Blenheim Park Industrial Estate on Sunday, but were dispersed at 22:00 BST.

    It comes after a spate of similar incidents in recent months.

    The force broke up illegal car meetings at East Midlands Parkway and Beeston last month, and in January 15 people were fined £200 each at a similar gathering in Mansfield.

    Insp Mark Dickson said: “The pandemic still poses a threat to public health and to those who are organising these events I would say – think about the consequences of your actions."

    The first phase of a restoration project to repair a 700-year-old church “destroyed” by fire is coming to an end.

    Large parts of All Saints' Church in Mackworth, Derby, were gutted by fire five months ago.

    Since then, work has been taking place to stabilise the building and make it safe, which is expected to be completed in about six weeks.

    After that the second phase of work is due to begin, which will include making the church water tight and fitting a roof, windows and door.

    Jeremy Trott, from the insurance company Ecclesiastical, said: "Anyone who saw the pictures last December will recognise the fire was pretty extensive.

    "Apart from the tower, which thankfully has been retained, and the porch - the rest of the church is destroyed."

    A woman has been fined £300 after a huge pile of household waste was dumped next to a Leicestershire reservoir.

    The waste, found fly-tipped in Saddington, was reported to Harborough District Council on 12 April.

    Evidence was found amongst the rubbish that traced it back to a woman in her 50s living in Leicester.

    She told the authority she paid a man with a van to remove the waste from her garage but she didn't check whether he was registered to carry and dispose of the waste.

    Jonathan Bateman, from the council, said: “It is vital that people stay vigilant and check if someone is licensed to remove waste from their property.

    "If you are in any doubt about whether the person or company removing your waste is licenced to do so, please do not use them.

    "If it is illegally dumped, you will be held responsible."

    Three teenagers have been arrested over an assault which has left another boy in intensive care.

    Police and paramedics found the injured 17-year-old after being called to the Nutbrook Trail in Kirk Hallam, Derbyshire, at about 21:20 on Saturday.

    Two boys aged 14 and 15, and a 19-year-old man, were arrested on Sunday on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

    The 17-year-old remains in hospital, police said.

    Derbyshire Police appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.

    A large scrap metal unit fire in Nottingham that sent plumes of smoke across the city has been deemed accidental by investigators.

    At its height, about 100 firefighters tackled the blaze at Sims Metal, Harrimans Lane, on Thursday and some remained at the scene to extinguish it and dampen down over the weekend.

    A spokeswoman for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service added it is not yet known what started the fire at the industrial site.

    "The fire is now all out, and the site has been handed over to site security," she added.

    There were no casualties as a result of the fire.

    A 48-hour dispersal order has been put in place for parts of Derbyshire following antisocial behaviour at a large gathering of car enthusiasts at the weekend.

    The order was introduced to Markeaton Park and Darley Abbey, in Derby, and Long Eaton and Sawley, in Derbyshire, from 20:00 yesterday to 20:00 on Tuesday.

    Derbyshire Police said they received reports of "vast numbers" of vehicles meeting in car parks in Long Eaton on Sunday evening, with some travelling to Derby.

    There were also reports of antisocial driving, speeding and racing, it added.

    The order gives officers more power to tell people to leave an area if they suspect antisocial or disruptive behaviour is likely.
