Police in Derbyshire say 850 metres of fencing has been put up around a reservoir after what officers described as "months of reprehensible and shameful conduct".

Foremark Reservoir, near Ticknall, has seen "scores of unruly visitors" since coronavirus restrictions were lifted, the Mercia Safer Neighbourhood Team said.

As well as antisocial behaviour, large amounts of litter have been left at the scenic spot, with rangers also "subjected to recalcitrant and unhelpful outbursts from visitors".

Police said beaches were closed off to public access last week at the request of Severn Trent Water rangers, with the fencing being placed after further requests not to enter the water were ignored.

The fencing "will remain in place for the foreseeable future", police said.
