However, Environment Agency Flood Alerts are in place for the River Lynher, River Fowey and for the North Cornwall rivers.

Thursday will be bright and breezy. Scattered showers will move eastwards though, turning heavy at times with hail possible. However, there will be some good periods of sunshine in between. Maximum Temperature: 8C (46F).

Olympic cyclist turned jockey Victoria Pendleton will be reunited with According To Sarah at North Cornwall point-to-point in Wadebridge on Sunday.

Pendleton rode the Alan Hill-trained mare in a point-to-point race at Barbury Castle in December, but the eight-year-old pulled up two fences from home.

Alan Hill said: "Victoria has been very busy and is going along great. She had a gallop with According To Sarah [on Wednesday morning] and also schooled two other horses. It's very much hands-on at the moment."

Volunteers have been back on the beaches of west Cornwall helping to pick up thousands of pink plastic bottles washing up on the shore.

It's thought the bottles of detergent come from a container lost overboard in May - investigations are continuing.

Dom Ferris (above) from the campaign group Surfers Against Sewage, who organised today's clean-up operation, said: "Obviously there is a huge amount of people appalled by this... marine tragedy."

'Distraught' mourners were forced to scale the gates of a Cornish graveyard to lay flowers after they were left locked.

Twenty people were shut out of Longstone Cemetery in St Ives before being let in at lunchtime on Christmas Day, with some stuck outside for hours.

One mourner Martina Anscombe told the BBC: "About 10 minutes after I left I heard that someone had actually come with bolt cutters as they were so upset." The company involved has apologised.

A Plymouth luxury yacht builder must explain why it took millions of pounds of public money to secure jobs and is now laying off hundreds of staff, a city MP says. 

Plymouth Sutton and Devonport MP Oliver Colvile (pictured) said Princess Yachts took £4.6m of public money to "secure 400 jobs" in 2013 and is now laying off 350. 

Princess Yachts said it did not have any comment.

A police Ford Focus was responding to reports of a violent incident in Camborne when the girl was hit this morning. She is in hospital in Bristol with serious head injuries.

Supt Ian Drummond-Smith said: "All our thoughts are with the child and her family at this extremely difficult time."

He added: "We do not yet fully understand the circumstances of this incident. We are carrying out all necessary actions as part of a very thorough investigation."

People in Bodmin are waiting to discover what the future might hold for the town's biggest employer, after it announced 430 jobs are at risk.

Tulip Ltd said "supplier reviews" meant it was now looking at restructuring parts of its meat-processing business.

Town mayor Lance Kennedy said: "The lose of 430 jobs especially just after Christmas is tragic for the individuals involved, as far as the community is concerned we need a lot more detail from Tulip, they've got a great number of agency workers."

Carl Nicholson, 44, from Exmouth, went out stealing just five days after he was freed on a suspended sentence for previous burglaries carried out to feed his obsession with women's clothing.

He was jailed for four and a half years after a judge at Exeter Crown Court told him he had wasted his last chance to reform.

The Sunday edition of the Western Morning News newspaper has been scrapped because of a lack of demand, with the loss of about six jobs, bosses have confirmed. 

The Sunday paper was launched in June 2014 and sold 20,000 copies on its first day.

Editor Bill Martin said it had ceased publication with immediate effect as there was not "sufficient demand". The paper, owned by the Trinity Mirror group, covers Devon, Cornwall and Somerset.

Child protection experts in Torbay have acknowledged that it is "not acceptable" services were found to be "inadequate" by inspectors.

Ofsted said child protection services leaders had been ineffective. They also found services for vulnerable children were too slow.

Torbay Council, Torbay & South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, Devon and Cornwall Police and Torbay Safeguarding Children Board said they "accepted the inspector’s conclusions in their entirety".

They added they were "already aware of some of the required improvements" before the inspection.

Wigan Athletic have signed goalkeeper Dan Lavercombe from Torquay, but will loan him back to the National League side until the end of the season.

Lavercombe, 19, who has featured 11 times for the Gulls this season, joins the Latics on a two-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

"Dan has lots of potential. He's impressed us during the time he's been with us," manager Gary Caldwell said. , external"He'll go back to Torquay to play, but he's a real find for the future."

Drivers are facing overnight delays and diversions as work starts to resurface sections of the A30 between Fingle Glen to Junction 31 of the M5 in Devon.

The work will start on Wednesday and take place overnight between 19:30 and 06:00 until Thursday, 14 January.

Roger Stribling, from Highways England, said: “During the work it will be necessary to put some road closures in place, but drivers will be able to continue their journeys by following a clearly signed diversion route."

Exeter's Labour MP says Jeremy Corbyn's changes to his shadow cabinet are a "revenge reshuffle".

Ben Bradshaw, the only Labour MP in Devon or Cornwall, said four months ago Mr Corbyn said everyone should be allowed to debate and disagree.

Mr Bradshaw said: "In order for us to regroup, we had to have an open and honest debate. He appears to be trying to close that debate down now with this discipline-driven revenge reshuffle, and I think that's regrettable.

"In the process, he's losing some very good talent from the Labour front bench."
