    The 24-hour strike by junior doctors has led to cancellations at hospitals across the South West. 

    - Royal Devon and Exeter: 28 operations; 200 outpatients appointments cancelled 

    - Plymouth Derriford: 12 inpatient operations; 19 daycase operations; 74 outpatient operations cancelled

    - Royal Cornwall Hospital: 15 operations; 200 outpatients sessions cancelled

    - North Devon District Hospital: 28 operations cancelled

    - Torbay: 14 operations cancelled

    CCTV images of a man who has been missing for nearly a month have been released by police.

    Chad Gibson, 32, disappeared from his home in St Austell on 19 December and was last seen leaving the Central Inn in Newquay with two men later that evening.

    - The 24-hour strike by junior doctors has resulted in more than 100 operations and nearly 500 outpatient appointments cancelled in Devon and Cornwall.

    - A derelict hotel, described as an "eyesore" on Plymouth Hoe, could be demolished to make way for a new hotel.

    Police investigating a road crash in Plymouth, external in which an elderly woman died are appealing for anyone who might have captured the accident on a dashboard camera to come forward.

    The 87-year-old local woman died following a collision between a mobility scooter and a grey Seat Toledo at the pedestrian crossing at the junction with Armada Way on Wednesday, 6 January.

  7. IPCC probe into Camborne road crashpublished at 17:34

    The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has confirmed it has begun an investigation into a road incident involving a police car in Camborne last week in which a 12-year-old girl was seriously injured.

    The girl suffered serious head injuries and is now recovering in Bristol Children's Hospital - her condition is described as "stable".

    IPCC Commissioner Cindy Butts said: "My thoughts go out to those involved for whom this has been a very traumatic event. We are carrying out an independent investigation into the circumstances that led to this girl's serious injuries.

    "We have met the girl's family to explain our role and how the investigation will progress. We would ask that anyone who witnessed the events that morning in Camborne come forward to speak to us."

    -  A techical problem with the third Torpoint Ferry means there is up to 15 minute wait with only two ferries running.

    A derelict building in a prime waterfront location in Plymouth which has been the target of several arson attacks could make way for a new hotel under council plans.

    Contracts have been exchanged between the owners of the Quality Inn and the City Council - the authority plans to demolish it and market the site to developers to build a new hotel.

    The council said it could not reveal how much it would pay owner Tamar Properties (Canterbury) Ltd because "commercially sensitive discussions" were ongoing - a report on buying the property is to be discussed by the Cabinet, external later.

  12. Astronomic win for Fowey studentspublished at 17:00

    A Cornish school says staff and students are "over the moon" at winning the chance to speak to Major Tim Peake when he returns from the International Space Station.

    The year nine astronomy students from Fowey River Academy, external took part in "I'm an Astronaut, Get me Out of Here, external" competition, funded by the UK Space Agency and the European Space Agency.

    "They have followed his mission from the beginning, studying how he trained, and watching him blast off live," teacher Laura Davies said, adding that she couldn't wait to see what questions the students asked Major Peake.

  13. Storms bring rare turtles to our shorespublished at 16:55

    There's been a sharp increase in the number of turtles washed up in the British Isles following winter storms.

    One young loggerhead turtle is in a special quarantine unit at the Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay - General manager Steve Matchett said: "He's still going, which is a bit of a surprise for us all because he was so weak.

    "We are warming him up slowly and he is taking on larger amounts of fluid. If he continues to gain strength we will start feeding him squid through a tube.

    "What we don't know is if there is any long-term internal damage such as organ failure, so it's pretty touch and go."

  14. Bomb disposal called to Plymouth devicepublished at 16:45

    An unexploded bomb, believed to be from World War Two, has been found in Plymouth.

    The device was discovered near Efford Fort in Plymouth by a member of the public who was metal dectectin and the area has been cordoned off by Devon and Cornwall Police, external.

    Royal Navy ordnance disposal have removed the device, which police said was not live.

  15. Operations cancelled as doctors strikepublished at 16:40

    Nearly 200 operations and hundreds of outpatient appointments have been cancelled by Devon's four main hospitals because of strike action by junior doctors over a contract dispute.

    Torbay Hospital, external cancelled 14 operations, the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, external and North Devon District Hospital , externaleach cancelled 28 operations, while Plymouth's Derriford Hospital , externalsaid a total of 105 operations and appointments were postponed.

    Hundreds of doctors took part in the industrial action, with Torbay Hospital saying 30 of the 160 junior doctors due to work turned up for duty.

    Plymouth Argyle have signed Hibernian defender Jordon Forster on loan until the end of the season.

    The 22-year-old has made 56 appearances for Hibs since his debut in February 2012, but has played just once this season, in the Scottish League Cup in July, having been hampered by a hamstring injury.

    He could be eligible for Tuesday's game with Northampton Town in League Two if Argyle receive international clearance in time.
