    A Cornwall MP who doesn't speak any Cornish wants the language brought back as a GCSE exam.

    Camborne and Redruth MP George Eustice said: "Many of the best schools in this country do teach some of those old redundant languages like Latin for the very good reason that children benefit not just from the language but also by having their mind stretched.... why not have the great schools here in Cornwall teaching Cornish?"

  4. Three injured following 'unprovoked' attack in Plymouthpublished at 14:32

    Police are trying to trace the driver of a red car, external that stopped to offer help after an unprovoked attack on a group in Plymouth at the weekend.

    Officers were called to reports of a fight on Honicknowle Green early on Sunday morning - a 28-year-old man was taken to Derriford Hospital with a serious head injury after being attacked with a bottle and baseball bat. Two young women suffered head and arm injuries.

    An 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, both from Plymouth, have been arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and have been released on bail.

  5. Duchy of Cornwall appeals against 'public authority' ruling in oyster rowpublished at 14:22

    The Prince of Wales' private estate is fighting a court ruling that could open up its dealings to increased public scrutiny. 

    Representatives for the Duchy of Cornwall are appealing against a decision that it is a "public authority" and must therefore hand over environmental data about a controversial oyster farm it owns at Port Navas in Cornwall.

    Around 6,000 Exeter City fans are making the trek from Devon to Liverpool for tonight's FA Cup replay at Anfield and it seems the merchandisers are ready for them.

  7. Post Office outsourcing plans face union objectionspublished at 14:00

    The Communication Worker's Union is vowing to fight plans to franchise out several crown post offices in Cornwall and Devon. 

    The Post Office says it's looking for "suitable partners" for branches in Penzance, St Austell and St Andrews Cross in Plymouth.

    But the unions is warning it could mean reduced pay and conditions for workers and a poorer service to the public.

    - Delays on the A39 Newquay Road in Penmount around the Veterinary Centre in the roadworks area.

    - Watch out for queuing traffic on the A361 in both directions in Wrafton, also because of roadworks.

    - Queues on the A385 in both directions in Totnes near the Clay Lane junction.

    - At Chillington the A379 is closed near Coleridge Lane for water main work. A diversion is in place.

    - Congestion is reported on the A376 Exeter Road in both directions in Exmouth at Courtlands Cross in the roadworks area.

  9. US Yachtsmen admit seven rescues in seven monthspublished at 13:33

    Two American yachtsmen, who were towed into harbour by the St Ives lifeboat yesterday, have admitted it was the seventh time they have been rescued since their voyage began in Norway last July.

    Bob Weise, a 71 year old ex-US Army helicopter pilot and screenwriter and author Steve Shapiro, also 71, have called out lifeboats in Norway, Denmark, Scotland, Ireland and Cornwall.  

    Fishermen in St Ives have doubted their competence and experience but the two men say they have simply had bad luck.

    Councillors have been told long-awaited improvements to the A30 between Carland Cross and Chiverton Cross in Cornwall could be built by 2022.

    Cllr Rob Nolan has told me the new road could be an 'expressway' standard - that's not quite a motorway but better than a dual carriageway and the Chiverton Cross roundabout could be moved east and turned into a flyover.

  13. 'Incompetent' Canadian yachtsmen stuck in St Ivespublished at 12:25

    Two Canadian yachtsmen remain in St Ives this morning where they're attempting to carry out repairs on their boat after being rescued three times in four days.

    The men, said to be in their 70s, were towed into the harbour after suffering a broken propellor shaft and battery problems. 

    Fishermen on the quay in St Ives say they're worried about the yachtsmen's competency. Falmouth Coastguard have raised similar concerns.

    Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale is feeling positive ahead of tonight's FA Cup replay against Liverpool at Anfield, saying: "There will be 6,000 Exeter City supporters going so we've all got to enjoy it."
