    I didn't have to go too far to take this photo of 20 swans swimming in loose formation - they were right outside my window at BBC Radio Cornwall - so we've used it as our banner photo on today's BBC Local Live: Devon and Cornwall page.

    A male swan is called a 'cob', a female is a 'pen' - according to Wikipedia, external, there are a number of collective nouns for the birds: a 'flight', a 'sownder', a 'bank' (when on the ground) and a 'wedge' (when in flight.)

    Exeter City take on Liverpool at Anfield in their FA Cup third-round replay (KO 20:00) - here are some fascinating facts:

    - Prior to the 2-2 draw at St James Park, Liverpool won the only previous FA Cup meeting between the sides, 3-1 at Anfield in a fourth-round tie in January 1950. 

    - Liverpool have never lost to a fourth-tier side (14 games) in the FA Cup, drew their last two home FA Cup ties 0-0, and have never gone three cup games at Anfield without scoring. 

    - Exeter have not reached the FA Cup fourth round since beating Maidstone United 4-2 in January 1981, losing seven ties since. 

    - The Grecians have beaten top-flight opposition three times in 32 attempts in the FA Cup, most recently in a fourth-round replay against Leicester in 1981.

    - Traffic light failure is reported on the A3022 Riviera Way in Torquay.

    -  Old Holne Bridge is blocked in both directions between the Ashburton junction and the Holne junction, because of a fallen tree.

    Truro City are out of the FA Trophy after losing 2-0 at Macclesfield Town in their second round replay.

    Danny Whittaker opened the scoring after 20 minutes, before Kristian Dennis converted a penalty late in the second half to seal the Silkmen's win.

    It was the first time in the club's history that they had made it past the first round of the competition.

  7. Concerns for competency of US yachtsmen after three rescuespublished at 09:22

    A pair of US yachtsmen have been rescued three times in four days by RNLI lifeboat crews, according to Cornish coastguards.

    They set off from Scandinavia bound for Ireland and four days ago were rescued for the first time after running aground. 

    They then headed for Dartmouth but stopped at St Ives where they called the coastguard for help with a propeller. The yacht, 'Nora', was towed to safety by lifeboat on Tuesday.

    An attempt is underway to get the Cornish language back on the GCSE curriculum.

    The exam was scrapped in 1996 after a decade because not enough pupils took it, but Camborne and Redruth MP George Eustice thinks the time is right to reinstate it.

    Exeter City will try to pull off an FA Cup upset at Premier League Liverpool tonight.

    Six thousand fans have bought tickets for the game and a fleet of 25 coaches will ferry them up to Merseyside today.

    Exeter twice led in the first game at St James Park which ended 2-2 and that has given them confidence pulling off a giant killing.

    - The A390 in St Ive is partially blocked and busy but moving near the Butchers Arms junction, because of an accident. Approach with care.

    -  Watch out for an accident on the A39 in Wainhouse Corner.

    - One lane is blocked with slow traffic on the A379 westbound in Dunstone, also because of an accident.

    - Between and Dartmeet and Ashburton at the Old Holne Bridge, the road is blocked due to a fallen tree which has damaged the bridge.

    - Watch out for ice on the region's roads - there are reports of slippery conditions on Pomphlett Road in Plymouth and on the South Devon Link Road.

    - Only two Torpoint Ferries are running this morning - there are delays of 30 minutes on both sides of the River Tamar.
