  2. Young painter takes Mini Monet nickname 'on chin'published at 17:58

    A 13-year-old artist whose works sell for up to £45,000 has said he is taking the nickname of Mini Monet "on the chin".

    Kieron Williamson, from Holt in Norfolk, sold his first painting when he was aged six. He has given up mainstream schooling to concentrate on his art.

    Coldplay's lead singer, Chris Martin, says the band's appearance at Radio 1's Big Weekend 2016 will mean a huge amount to him personally because he was born and raised in the Exeter area.

    He said: "I lived the first few years of my life less than 500 yards from where we'll be performing so this couldn't be more of a homecoming for me.

    "Guy, Will, Jonny and I are honoured to be on the bill and we're looking forward to a very special show."

  5. Acid attack victim's fears for sonpublished at 17:40

    Acid attack victim Andreas Christoperos kept his 18-month-old son away from his bedside for two months to protect the little boy.

    "For him his world should have been full of happiness, joy and toys, which he had," said Mr Christopheros who was attacked in December 2014 on the doorstep of his Truro home.

    Acknowledging it was "insanely tough" to be away from his child, he recalled the moment he saw his young son for the first time after the attack.

    "The moment he saw me... he put his arms out and held on to me for three quarters of an hour," he said. It was an experience which he described as "the best feeling I think I've ever had... truly amazing".

    His side lost 20-17 to Old Elthamians, having led 17-7 just before half time.

    "We were so near, but so far, especially in a season where we're desperately looking for that one victory. We're desperately disappointed. The players are down, we're down. Sometimes it's as tough to lose by a narrow margin as it is by a bigger margin," Tucker told BBC Cornwall.

    The "Wag From Widecombe" presented his Sunday request show for more than 30 years, with it becoming the most successful programme on the station.

    A care worker has been jailed for two and a half years for stealing £75,000 from a patient in her care to spend on a "lavish lifestyle," Exeter Crown Court has heard.

    Melanie Harris, 44, emptied the bank account of 65-year-old Ted Carter, who suffered from cerebral palsy, for shopping trips and family presents.

    Recorder Philip Mott said Harris, of Barnstaple, was motivated by "greed", as well as "family expenses", when she stole from Mr Carter whom she cared for at his bungalow, along with his wheelchair-bound wife.

    Cornwall Seal Sanctuary curator Tamara Cooper said many pups are being rescued in recent storms.

    Many were underweight and had been injured from being dashed on rocks.

    "They have come in thick and fast over the stormy period and we are expecting more over the coming months," she said.

    "Some are only a few months old and they come ashore to rest. They are very skinny and need feeding up. We have six ready to go so we are just waiting for a clear spell of weather."

    A prostate cancer patient from Cornwall says he's "absolutely amazed" a picture he posted of himself online in his pants showing his catheter bag went viral.

    Kurt Jewson's Facebook post which also shows his colostomy bag, scars and hormone implants, was shared by 180,000 people within four days.

    The 44-year-old said he had exposed himself in his "tubby, pale and middle aged glory" in the hope "just one other man" might then get symptoms checked. He also wanted to alert GPs to the growing prevalence in younger men.

  13. Broadband boss understands 'frustration' over superfast accesspublished at 16:40

    The man in charge of superfast broadband in Cornwall says he understands it is "very frustrating" for people who still can't get the service.

    It's after claims many people either still can't get it or can't access the kind of speeds that are advertised.

    Ranulf Scarborough, BT Programme Director for Superfast Cornwall, said large amounts of money were being invested to ensure as many people as possible got faster online services.

    He said: "There's a huge amount going on to get these services out there."

  14. Airport sees passenger numbers risepublished at 16:23

    Exeter Airport is celebrating its best performance in six years with passenger numbers up by almost 7% to more than 800,000. 

    Figures just released show that the airport handled 816,379 passengers in 2015, compared to 763,902 the year before - an increase of 6.9%. 

    Managers said the last time the airport had more than 800,000 passengers was in 2009.

  15. Truro hope to sign ex-Argyle defender Bentleypublished at 16:13

    Truro City hope to complete the signing of former Plymouth Argyle defender Aaron Bentley.

    The 20-year-old was released by Argyle earlier this month, having made three appearances last season after coming through the club's academy system.

    "We've sort of sorted a deal out for him so hopefully he'll be signed up next week," manager Steve Tully said.

  16. Fake cops warning from policepublished at 16:04

    People should only stop for police if officers are "in a marked vehicle displaying flashing blue lights", officers in Devon and Cornwall say, external.

    The warning comes after three men were arrested after an off-duty officer was pulled over during a suspected attempt to steal his car on Sunday. Two of the men were believed to be impersonating police, the Devon and Cornwall force said.

    The force added that such incidents were "rare". It said: "Motorists can also ask any officer for ID and their shoulder number. Please call 999 if you believe you have been stopped by a person impersonating an officer.”

  17. Pensioner denies sexual assault against 19-year-old womanpublished at 15:56

    A pensioner has denied two counts of sexual assault against a 19-year-old woman, after she claimed she was touched by the ex-serviceman.

    Martin Ashby, 70, put his hand inside the woman's pyjamas and knickers as they both slept on the floor of a friend's house, Exeter Crown Court heard.

    Mr Ashby, of Gould Road, Barnstaple, said the woman had consented to the sexual activity. The trial continues.

    The hosting of Radio 1's Big Weekend at Exeter this year will be "so exciting" for the area, a council leader says.

    Coldplay, Bring Me The Horizon, Craig David and Chase & Status (pictured) are among the acts announced for the two-day event, which will take place on 28 and 29 May at Powderham Castle.  

    Exeter City Council Leader Pete Edwards, said: "The atmosphere will be amazing at Powderham Castle - a once in a lifetime experience."

  19. Nichols leaves Exeter for Peterboroughpublished at 15:38

    Peterborough have signed Exeter City striker Tom Nichols for an undisclosed fee on a four-and-a-half-year deal.

    The 22-year-old, who scored in the FA Cup third-round draw against Liverpool in January, was out of contract at the League Two club in the summer, and scored 34 goals in 113 appearances for Exeter. 

    "We have been trying sign Tom since January 2015 when we first approached Exeter about a deal so its been long chase for his services," said Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony.
