  3. Complaints about damp in housing group propertiespublished at 11:11

    Tenants of the Ocean Housing Group, external have complained BBC Radio Cornwall, alleging there are damp problems affecting the homes they rent. 

    Tommy, who lives in an Ocean property in Newquay, said he had been left upset that the association claimed the damp in his flat was because he had not been heating or ventilating it properly.

    In a statement, Ocean said it was satisfied it was taking all reasonable steps to help Tommy. It added that it had fitted two extractor fans and the problem was down to condensation, not penetrating damp.

    There's anger and confusion in west Devon over signs at a new road junction.

    Locals say there has been a spate of accidents at Whiddon Down as warning signs were put up, taken down and reinstated in a matter of days. Temporary barriers and traffic cones have now be put up to mark out part of the new road layout.

    The developers, Renewable Energy Systems, who are building the road, said the site had been independently assessed and was considered safe.

    Coldplay have been confirmed as one of the main acts at Radio 1's Big Weekend at Exeter in Devon this year.

    The band - led by Devon-born Chris Martin - Bring Me The Horizon, Craig David and Chase & Status are among the acts announced for the two-day event, which will take place on 28 and 29 May at Powderham Castle.

    Exeter battled to a bonus-point win at Worcester to keep up the pressure on Premiership leaders Saracens.

    The visitors crossed early on when a flowing move found winger James Short out wide, who then hit an excellent line to allow Ian Whitten to score. Tom Heathcote's four penalties kept Warriors in touch though and the match was well set at 12-12 at the break.

    Heatcote added another penalty but Thomas Waldrom and Don Armand tries secured a bonus-point win for Chiefs.

    A union claims hundreds of jobs in Plymouth are at risk because of cuts to council spending.

    The GMB has issued a list of councils it says it is talking to about proposed job losses, and says 400 are at at the city council.

    The Department for Communities and Local Government said local councils had almost £200bn to spend on local services, including a £3.5bn social care package over the lifetime of the current parliament.

    People in Cornwall's rural areas say they need alternative methods of getting faster internet. 

    Superfast Cornwall said it had built a fibre network, meaning nearly 90% of the county could get online with speeds of over 24 megabits per second - or Mbps - enough to download a TV programme while checking email. 

    But many still say they can't access the kind of speeds that are advertised.

    - In Cornwall, there are reports that three-way traffic lights at Weeth Road, Camborne, are all stuck on red

    - Skybus flights between Newquay Airport, Lands End and the Isles of Scilly are expected to run as normal

    A woman has died and her two passengers are in a critical condition after a two-car crash.

    The 46 year old from the Isle of Wight suffered fatal injuries in the crash on the A35 at Axminster in Devon at about 18:00 GMT on Saturday. Two others in the Vauxhall Zafira are in a critical condition in hospital. The other car involved was a Honda from the Dorset area. Police said next of kin had been informed and investigations were continuing.

    Radio 1's Big Weekend will take place at Exeter in Devon this year.

    Bring Me The Horizon (pictured) and Chase & Status are the first two acts announced for the two-day event, which will take place on 28 and 29 May.

    More artists will be announced soon with ticketing details for Exeter's Powderham Castle revealed on 21 March. Big Weekend is Europe's largest free ticketed festival.

    The cloudy, mild, damp and drizzly weather we have at first will persist for the morning. The rain will become heavier around the middle of the day as a fragmented weather front crosses the county from the northwest, clearing the southeast by mid afternoon. This will leave drier and brighter conditions, with a few showers possible.

    South West Local MPs will meet Chancellor George Osborne today to urge the government to commit money to rail improvements in the region. 

    This follows news that there is currently no more cash available for rail upgrades until 2019, or even to fund a report into better rail links.
