A dad from Cullompton was left "fuming" when an ambulance took 24 minutes to reach his son who was having a seizure.  

Paul Blackmore, father to Barry, has been reacting to news that ambulance staff are wasting about 50 hours a day waiting to hand over patients: “There’s no use taking it out on the crews because it’s not their fault. They can only work with the resources they’ve got," he said.

The South Western Ambulance service, external says from April to December 2015, staff spent more than 11,000 hours on delayed handovers.

A teenager who drove off in his car with only three tyres, has been sentenced to six months in a young offenders institution and disqualified from driving for six months.

The Peugeot 106 driven by Arthur Fox, 19, of Wheal Vor, Redruth, was still covered in police tape as he careered through Newquay. Police following him said the front driver-side tyre came completely off the wheel and rolled down the road. 

Blood tests showed he'd taken cannabis and diazepam. He admitted dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drugs at Truro Crown Court.

A homeless man has admitted to setting alight to a disabled tramp's sleeping bag, external as he slept in a covered market. Adam Scott had been using legal highs with two 16-year-old boys who also took part in the attack on 71-year-old wheelchair-bound vagrant in Barnstaple's Pannier Market in December last year.

It comes as forecasters warn of heavy rain which may cause flooding tomorrow, along with gale force winds.

A fundraising page, external set up under the name of Archers character Helen Titchener - who's suffering abuse in the Radio 4 soap - has raised more than £20,000 for a domestic violence charity.

Paul Trueman, from Georgeham, Devon, said: "I thought what if you could create a Just Giving page for a fictional person but give the money to real women who we know are in that situation." 

Refuge chief executive Sandra Horley said: "This money will translate into specialist support for real Helen Titcheners up and down the country."

Police said they found a 'petrol bomb factory' after raiding the flat of Stefan Bray in Redruth last May.

Bray has been given a two-year suspended sentence at Truro Crown Court having previously pleaded guilty to having an article with intent to damage or destroy property.

Det Con Adam Partridge said: "I'm pleased and relieved he was caught before his behaviour escalated and someone was caused significant harm. Experimenting with explosive substances is not a past-time or hobby. It is not tolerated in society and is taken very seriously by police."

The Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust is urging people to only use it's Emergency Department in Truro this weekend if necessary, after declaring another black alert.

The Trust says it has seen high numbers of emergency admissions over the last 24 hours, and delays transferring patients out of hospital after treatment. 

Its Chief Executive Andrew MacCallum said they were asking for extra help from GPs and other partners to speed up discharges. He also urged the public to use alternative services to A&E wherever possible.

News that the former vice chancellor of Plymouth University was given a £125,000 after a long dispute looks like a payment for loss of face. 

It apparently compensates Wendy Purcell for the intangible fall-out from her change of jobs. That fall-out might include hurt feelings or damage to reputation; the shift from Vice Chancellor to President publicly watered down her authority. 

The payment ISN'T compensation for loss of earnings, because Freedom of Information enquiries showed that Prof Purcell stayed on the same salary when she became President.  

A Cornish family says it needs to raise £80,000, external to give their five-year-old daughter the chance to walk unaided.

Izzy Pearce from St Columb Major has a type of Cerebral Palsy which means she has problems with leg movements and co-ordination. The pioneering surgery she needs is only available in the USA.

The Penzance-based club have won 10 of their last 11 matches, rising from the foot of the Championship to sixth.

"In our training sessions we come off saying 'how have we left so and so out this week because he's on fire'. Then you watch the tape back and you realise the reason we've left him out is because the guy in the shirt is also on fire," Davies told BBC Cornwall.

It's been confirmed today that the share of council tax taken by Devon and Cornwall Police will go up by almost 2% in April. 

The 1.99% increase means that residents living in an average Band D property will see that part of their bill go up by 6.5 pence a week - that's £3.37 per year.

The Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Panel confirmed the Police and Crime Commissioners Budget for 2016-17 earlier. Tony Hogg says, external the increase will cancel out a shortfall of £1.8m in government funding.

A university leader was given a payoff of £125,000, external despite being kept on for a year on a salary twice that amount. Wendy Purcell was removed as vice-chancellor after a long stand-off with governors at Plymouth University and was awarded the money even though she stayed on as president.

A teenager released by police drove off in his car with only three tyres while under the influence of drugs, Truro Crown Court has heard.

Arthur Fox, 19, was arrested just after midnight last November when police following him saw the front driver-side tyre come off the wheel. He was released pending blood test results but then drove the car off covered in police tape.

Test results later showed Fox had taken cannabis and diazepam. He was sentenced to six months in a young offenders institution and disqualified from driving for six months.

Devon police are warning the public to be alert after an attempted car theft, external. Teignmouth and Dawlish Neighbourhood Police posted the warning following an incident in Bishopsteignton at approximately midday today.

A new website showcasing dramatic pictures from the planet Mars is being translated into Cornish. 

Scientists at the University of Arizona, external wanted translations from all countries of NASA, external's technical descriptions.
