    New research, external from the University of Exeter has found that the spread of a deadly virus among honeybees is caused by humans.

    The deformed wing virus - found widely in Europe - is a serious threat to hives worldwide and the findings suggest the international movement of bees is accelerating its spread.

    As David Cameron's fight for a better European Union deal continues - Devon's Tory MP's are starting to reveal whether they'll vote to stay in or come out.

    About 4,000 people have completed a survey about parking in Cornwall in just two weeks.

    The council survey , externalincludes the views of people in Bude, Falmouth and Penryn, Newquay, Penzance and Newlyn, St Ives, Truro and Wadebridge.

    "The response to the survey so far indicates great interest and a desire to try and find solutions to problems," the council's transport member Bert Biscoe said.

    A man 'obsessed with fire and explosives' who set off petrol bombs in disused mineshafts has been given a two year suspended sentence.

    Truro Crown Court heard how Stefan Bray, 22, built a 'petrol bomb factory' at his home in Albany Road, Redruth.

    Bray previously pleaded guilty to having an article with intent to damage or destroy property. Judge Simon Carr said he believed Bray's activities with bombs were 'experimentation'.

    An investigation is underway after a woman was struck by a train at a level crossing in west Cornwall.

    Emergency crews were sent to Gwinear Road level crossing in Hayle just before 10am this morning, British Transport Police said. 

    The woman, believed to be in her 60s, was taken to hospital by air ambulance with serious head and leg injuries. All train services between Penzance and Truro were suspended for about two hours.

    A woman's been taken to hospital after being hit by a train on a level crossing near Hayle.

    British Transport Police said emergency services were called to Gwinear near Hayle  just before 10:00 this morning. 

    The woman, believed to be in her 60's, was flown to hospital by air ambulance with serious head and leg injuries. Officers say an investigation is underway. The railway line has now reopened.

    South west ambulance staff are wasting an average of 50 hours every day between them, waiting to hand patients over at accident and emergency departments.

    Director of operations at South Western Ambulance Service, external Neil Le Chevalier said: "It’s hugely frustrating for us and equally for the crews and also the patient experience in the hospitals."  

    SWAS has worked with commissioners to create an improvement plan, in which Derriford and the Royal Cornwall Hospitals have been asked to reduce delays by 25%.

    Have you ever had problems getting in or getting out of hospital? 

    The South Western Ambulance Service has told the BBC its crews are wasting 50 hours a day by waiting to hand over patients at accident and emergency departments.

    It's emerged that Plymouth University paid its former Vice Chancellor, Wendy Purcell, compensation of more than £100,000 after she switched roles during severe turmoil at top of the institution

    Professor Purcell took on the newly-created role of University President when she gave up day-to-day control there after a long boardroom battle in 2014. 

    Her salary stayed the same, but the latest university accounts reveal that she was awarded £125,000 for "loss of office". The University is refusing to comment.

    An Archers fan has "accidentally" raised more than £19,000 after setting up a donation page under the name of one of the radio soap's characters.

    Paul Trueman, 41, from Georgeham, Devon, was inspired by character Helen Titchener who is suffering abuse at the hands of her husband, Rob. 

    The The Helen Titchener (nee Archer) Rescue Fund , externalhas raised more than £19,000.

    The Department for Education has approved plans by Truro and Penwith College to open a free school in Cornwall. 

    Callywith College will be built in Bodmin to teach 16 to 19-year-olds.

    The plans have been previously criticised by other schools in north and east Cornwall who believe it may force the closure of existing sixth forms.

    Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale says he has been impressed by the development of forward David Wheeler.

    The 25-year-old signed a new contract last month, despite speculation linking him with a move away from the club during the January transfer window.

    "A year ago he was in and out of the side, and in the last six months he's turned himself into a week-by-week starting 11 player. It shows his development so far and we hope it continues," Tisdale told BBC Sport.
