    There are warnings there will be more smoking and drinking related deaths in Cornwall after the closure of a campaign group.

    The BBC can reveal that Public Health Action, formerly Smoke Free South West, external, is to close in June. Councils say it is a 'direct result' of government cuts.

    A 65-year-old man who died on Monday in a crash, external on the A390 at Probus near Truro has formally been identifed by police as Keith Hurren from Chacewater.

    Police, fire and ambulance were called to the scene of the crash between a Toyota RAV4 and a Land Rover Defender and Mr Hurren was pronounced dead at the scene.

    - The South Western Ambulance Service says its crews are wasting around 50 hours a day because of delays transferring patients to busy accident and emergency departments

    Local town and parish councils should be able to set their own speed limits, according to a South West MP. 

    If Conservative Scott Mann, external's private member's bill is successful, small councils would be allowed to hold referenda to set speed limits, which highways authorities would then be obliged to introduce.

    The North Cornwall MP's bill will have its second reading in the Commons later, but the Alliance of British Drivers has criticised the idea, describing it as "localism carried too far".

    Ambulance staff are wasting an average of 50 hours every day between them, waiting to hand patients over at accident and emergency departments in the South West.

    The South Western Ambulance service, external says in one nine-month period, staff spent more than 11,000 hours on delayed handovers.
