    • On the A377 at Alphington has slow traffic in both directions

    A controversial rock carving of Merlin at Tintagel Castle has been damaged.

    A spokesman for English Heritage said the nose of the artwork has been damaged but they can't be certain whether it's been done deliberately or as a result of natural wear and tear.

    The carving had been branded a "disneyfication" of the site by critics.

    The family of a man who killed himself after he was held in police custody, have welcomed an inquest jury's decision that he had been unlawfully detained and strip searched

    The Coroner said he would be writing to the Chief Constable over the death of Logan Peters, 22, from Torpoint [pictured left]. Devon and Cornwall Police said the actions of a number of officers involved in his case "did not meet the high standards that we expect and these officers have received management action in relation to their future conduct."

    Logan's sister Jade said: "It was the fact that nobody took the time to let my mum know that those things had happened to my brother". While his father Robert [pictured right] said: "It was a breakdown of communication, nobody spoke to anybody, Logan was very aware of his human rights and we feel he was vindicated in that."

  9. Latest travel across Devon and Cornwall: Heavy traffic on A38published at 09:26 British Summer Time 27 May 2016

    • On the A38 in Devon there's heavier than usual traffic eastbound around Chudleigh.  
    • There's an accident on the B3343 in Trimstone near Mullacott Cross Roundabout.  
    • On the A380, King's Ash Road in Paignton is partially blocked and there's queuing traffic near the Colley End Road junction, because of an accident involving a single vehicle.
    • On the B3285 in Cornwall, there's an accident in Goonhavern between the A3075 Newquay Road junction and Boxheater Junction.

    Devon and Cornwall Police says it will look in detail at the findings of an inquest into the death of a man who had been held in police custody before he died, to decide whether any further action is necessary.

    Logan Peters, 22, from Torpoint, was on a night out when he was arrested in Plymouth on 7 May 2014. 

    The inquest in Truro heard police used unlawful force on Mr Peters and carried out an unauthorised strip search. The force said officers involved in his case had not met "the very high standards" expected, and had "received management action in relation to their future conduct".

    We're on the eve of the biggest sporting weekend the South West has ever known, with Exeter Chiefs, the Cornwall rugby team and Plymouth Argyle all involved in cup finals on successive days.

    The Chiefs are bidding to become the number one rugby team in England, but to do that they've got to conquer the reigning domestic and European champions Saracens at Twickenham tomorrow. 

    On Sunday Cornwall are at Twickenham and will try to retain their County Championship title by beating Cheshire.

    Meanwhile on Monday, Plymouth Arygle will walk out onto the hallowed turf of Wembley to try to secure promotion in the League Two play-off final against Wimbledon.

    Motorists are stuck in 11 miles of queues after a crash on the A38 just after the Splatford Split.

    Earlier, on the Exeterbound carriageway, a car hit the central reservation. The vehicle and its debris blocked lanes 1, 3 and 4.

    All lanes have now reopened - but on the A38 and the A380 heading towards Exeter, there's up to 11 miles of delays due to the crash.

    But four members demanded today's hearing amid criticism from politicians who say they're concerned the ongoing investigation will overshadow her work.

    The excitement is building for music fans - with only one day to go until Radio 1's Big Weekend at Powderham Castle.

    The venue, which is the ancestral home of the Earl of Devon, will be transformed as 50,000 fans attend Europe's largest free ticketed festival. 

    The two day event will see 75 acts perform, including Coldplay, Take That, Ellie Gouding and Jess Glynne.
