    For 12 years, people living on a street in Gunnislake have been fighting to have the contaminated land where their houses were built cleaned up.

    Eighteen were built on the site of the old railway station, then sold without clear information about very high levels of arsenic and other contaminants in a nearby embankment.

    Now an Environmental Audit Committee report out today has warned the government could be harming public health by removing funding to clean up contamination.

    A new event aimed at putting Dartmoor on the world map is being backed by Doc Martin actor Martin Clunes.

    The Dartmoor Derby is inspired by two things: the world's longest and toughest horse race in Mongolia and chic African riding safaris. 

    It's being planned for September and will last over three days, with a mix of camping, hotels and local produce.

    Pressure on hospital eye appointments in the South West is so high that in recent years some people have completely lost their sight while waiting for appointments.

    We know of two people who have died and in Cornwall alone there is a backlog of 2,000 eye appointments. 

    There are now calls for opticians to take on some of the burden to ease the pressure on hospitals.
