A company has paid out costs to agencies which cleared up hundreds of pink bottles that washed up on a Cornish beach.

The bottles washed up along the south Cornwall coast from the Lizard towards Mounts Bay in January. It's thought they came from a container that fell off the deck of a ship. Cleaning products firm Reckitt Benckiser promised to work closely with agencies to provide financial and technical support with the clean-up, irrespective of the origin of the products.

The Maritime Coastguard Agency said it had paid about £38,000 in costs. Cornwall Council and the National Trust said their costs were also met in full, with a further donation for the trusts' conservation work.

  7. Torbay Hospital A&E rated 'inadequate'published at 08:02 British Summer Time 7 June 2016

    BBC Spotlight

The casualty department at Torbay Hospital has been found to be inadequate by inspectors and the trust as a whole has been rated as "requiring improvement".

    Torbay Hospital

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) said patients in the emergency department were at risk of avoidable harm, because of a "lack of urgency" to address and treat people, and because there were not always enough senior doctors or nurses on duty.

However, the Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust was also rated "outstanding" for caring, which the CQC said reflected the compassion and support of people working there. Torbay Hospital said it had plans in place to deliver the changes needed to improve.
