    A 27-year old man questioned in relation to the death of a baby boy in Newton Abbot remains in custody. 

    Police are investigating the death that they say is "suspicious". 

    Ambulance staff informed police of the death of the boy, who was eight months old, at around 10:30 BST on Wednesday.

    Unions have admitted that a report into failings of the NHS 111 service run by South Western Ambulance Service is "very damning".

    Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors said the 111 service, run by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT), put callers' safety at risk.

    Chris Nelson, joint branch secretary at Unison for South West Ambulance, said: "What we experience within NHS 111 is indicative, unfortunately, of the national problem with NHS 111, a service that is poorly understood, poorly commissioned, poorly funded will always fail, despite the clear and obvious efforts that are being made by our members."

    Exeter Chiefs winger Jack Nowell has been recalled to the England side to face Australia in the second test in Melbourne.

    The 23-year-old from Newlyn was dropped in favour of harlequins' Marland Yarde for the first match last week.

    But Nowell, who came on as a replacement, scored England's final try in their record-setting 39-28 win.

    Rescuers said they were called to New Waste near Cornwood to search for a Duke of Edinburgh award team., external

    The group had called the ambulance service and reported that one of their members was unconscious. 

    Plymouth and Ashburton rescue teams worked together and all members were airlifted off the moor.

    The tradition of fishermen using small rowing boats and nets on some of Devon's estuaries is under threat, because of a ban to help preserve fish stocks.

    Fishermen have spent part of the year netting on the Taw-Torridge and Salcombe-Kingsbridge estuaries for generations. 

    But, the Devon & Severn Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority - which is behind a proposed ban - says the stopping the use of nets will help conserve fish numbers. But, there is concern about the impact the changes could have.

    Ambulance chiefs say it's "very difficult" to retain staff as the NHS patient helpline is rated inadequate in a damning report by inspectors.

    Inspectors said the 111 service, run by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT), put callers' safety at risk.  

    SWASFT chief executive Ken Wenman said: "The CQC report does point out that we were understaffed... it's very difficult to recruit and retain members of staff, particularly clinical staff in this type of service, and that's the focus that we're going to be having as part of the improvements that we're going to make over the coming months."

    A man and a woman have been charged with the murder of a man from East Sussex whose body has not been found.

    Karl Bunster, 37, from Hastings, was last seen in Mann Street in the town on 17 December last year.

    He failed to appear before magistrates on 30 December to answer two charges of assault by beating.

    Ben Walton, 48, and Stacey McClymont, 28, both of Cowick Hill, Exeter, in Devon, have been charged with murdering him between 16 and 19 December.

    Melissa Mead, whose son died of sepsis after the 111 service and GPs failed to spot his condition, said a damning report confirmed "her doubts and suspicions" but she hoped it would bring improvements to the service.

    NHS 111 was blamed for failings which led to the death of William in 2014.

    "We can't bring William back but for us the best apology is to change behaviour", she said.

    Inspectors found the service "had been consistently failing to meet national standards", and "too many patients" abandoned their calls due to long waiting times. Staff were stressed and tired, and calls were being answered by staff "who were not trained to assess patients' symptoms".

    Each passenger on a "green" commuter ferry service cost taxpayers more than £170 in subsidies, it has emerged.

    A total of 3,186 passengers used the service between Brixham and Torquay in Devon from when it started in December 2014 to April last year. 

    At the same time the Brixham Express company received £544,000 in subsidies before they were stopped by Torbay Council. 

    The authority said the payments were in line with the firm's contract.

    A "consistently failing" NHS patient helpline has been rated inadequate in a "damning" report.

    Patients requiring emergency care in the South West were left waiting "for long periods", the Care Quality Commission (CQC) found.
