Any isolated showers will die away during the course of the evening to leave dry but humid conditions overnight.

Some clear spells may develop by dawn, with perhaps the odd mist or fog patch over high ground. Min Temp: 12C (54F)

Saturday should start off dry, with cloud slowly clearing through the day to leave a bright, fine day with plenty of sunshine. The odd isolated shower is possible towards the end of the day, but most people should stay dry. Max Temp: 22C (72F)

Sunday should be a dry and bright day with even more sunshine than on Saturday. On Monday and Tuesday there's a return to cloudy conditions with some prolonged spells of rain at times.

Water bowsers are on their way to Lundy Island as a prolonged dry spell has left the island facing a water shortage.

With 30 people in permanent residence - rising up to 160 in peak season - the island is reliant on rainfall for its water supplies.

Island manager Derek Green said: "The weather in the first half of the summer has been fairly calm which has been great for our visitor numbers but the lack of rainfall has put pressure on our water supplies."

Firefighters in Devon have been testing new equipment that sprays a mist inside a building on fire to reduce temperatures.

Lee Howell, chief fire officer for Devon and Somerset said: "It's very unusual, we don't often set fire to buildings or get the chance to test new equipment. 

"It's been going well, we've seen temperatures drop from 400c to 40c in a matter of seconds."

A wandering seagull which took a liking to a shop's fruit and veg display in St Ives caused chaos after staff tried to shoo it out.

Norway Store owner Marie White said: "It flapped its wings and knocked over a bottle of Sambuca before we could get it out."

The seagull is a regular visitor, she said. "It normally loiters on the street and if it gets quiet it takes a hop into the shop."

Engineers are investigating what caused the partial collapse of a house in the West Devon village of Sampford Courtenay.

Yesterday afternoon part of a cob wall unexpectedly crumbled into the main road. Nobody was injured.

Penzance's boating lake is "completely unusable" according to a model boat owner who has criticised Cornwall Council for not making a better job of clearing it, external.

Firefighters will start a fire in Devon today to test a new generation of life-saving firefighting equipment.

Four empty houses due for demolition in North Prospect will be deliberately set alight, and then crews will test a new sprinkler system which is probed through walls. 

Devon and Somerset's Chief Fire Officer Lee Howell says the exercises involve simulating real life scenarios.

A house built of cob - a traditional combination of mud and straw - has partially collapsed in Sampford Courtenay, Devon.

The road from Forge Cottage to Bulland Cross in Sampford Courtenay, near Okehampton, was cordoned off.

It is not yet known what caused the collapse.

No-one was reported injured.

Dog owners are being urged to take care while walking their pets near cliffs after a dog died in Padstow and a puppy fell 45ft, external near Falmouth.

People living on north east Dartmoor are getting together to try and set up a not-for profit community social care agency due to a "chronic shortage of regulated care providers in the area".

The group said about three people from the Moretonhampstead and Chagford area were stuck in hospital every week unnecessarily, because there was no one to care for them at home. 

Devon County Council, which is responsible for adult social care, says there is a national shortage of carers, and it has teamed up with a private company to provide personal care in the area. 

BBC Radio Cornwall journalist Hannah Stacey has just made herself the most popular person in the newsroom by buying everyone a choc ice to celebrate Friday afternoon.

The annual Sidmouth Folk Festival starts today. It began 62 years ago with 100 or so folk dancers congregating in the town for what was then called a "seaside holiday with dancing".

Aidan Turner will return to television screens as Ross Poldark later this year.

The first series of the remake of the 1970s show was a huge success and fans have been keenly anticipating Poldark's return in September.
