    Staffing levels have been increased at Derriford Hospital as crowds gather for the MTV Crashes event in Plymouth.

    The two day music event got underway last night with thousands of people descending on The Hoe. 

    The extra arrangements were put in place after the A&E department saw a sharp rise in admissions during last year's event.

    The leader of the Green Party has criticised the "pointless waste" created by a rail firm which refused to serve her coffee in a reusable cup.

    Natalie Bennett was travelling on Great Western Railway (GWR) from Truro to Plymouth when she asked for a latte.

    A GWR drinks bar worker refused saying there was a risk of injury to her and the member of staff.

    It may be some time before residents living near an Exeter shop that was gutted by fire will be able to return to their homes.

    The Richer Sounds store on Sidwell Street was severely damaged by a fire that broke out on Wednesday afternoon.

    So far, investigators have been unable to access the building due to concerns over the safety of the structure.
