    Australians Peter Hooley and David Humphries and forward Deji Adekunle have become the first signings for new Plymouth Raiders boss Jonathan White.

    Hooley and Humphries qualify as British players through family ties and all three played college basketball in the United States until this summer. 

    Hooley averaged 12.5 points a game at Albany University, Humphries played under former NBA coach Mike Dunlap at Loyola Marymount University while Adekunle will become Raider's tallest player at 6'11 and joins having graduated from Kiele University having also played at Northwestern State and Williston State.

    St Austell in Cornwall could be rebranded as part of a move to celebrate its history with the material.

    By the early 20th Century, Cornwall dominated the global market, producing half the world's china clay which was used to produce the finest porcelain and pottery.

    The rebrand is part of a multimillion-pound regeneration project including the production of Cornishware pottery in the county it was named after, nearly 100 years after it first appeared.

    There are fears illegally parked vehicles could be putting lives at risk in Cornwall.

    Residents and traders in some Cornish tourist hotspots say there have been cases where ambulances and fire appliances have been held up because of badly parked vehicles.

    Richard Gibbons, Station Manager with Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service, said irresponsible parking was a serious problem for crews.

    Trials of a new generation of life-saving firefighting equipment will take place in Plymouth today.

    Four empty houses due for demolition will be set ablaze as part of a series of training exercises by crews including a new sprinkler system.

    Devon and Somerset's Chief Fire Officer, Lee Howell said the technology could have helped crews tackling the blaze at Richer Sounds in Exeter on Wednesday.

    Liberal Democrat Maggie Vale was elected to Cornwall Council last night after winning the Newlyn and Goonhavern by election.

    The seat was previously held by Conservative Lisa Shuttlewood who resigned. Mrs Vale won with 247 votes.

    Paul Charlesworth of the Conservative Party took second place with 234 votes and independent candidate Kenneth Yeo was third with 163. The turnout was 26%.
