    There's been a spate of scam callers pretending to be from Devon's councils, Trading Standards has warned.

    Officers said they had taken a number of complaints about tricksters claiming to be from local authorities, trying to convince people to part with their personal information and bank details. 

    The latest scams involved driveway resurfacing, council tax payments and demands for utility work fees.

    A motorcyclist has died in a crash in Cornwall, police say. 

    Officers said the rider and a Volkswagen Polo collided near the Turnpike Inn on Turnpike Road, at Connor Downs, near Hayle, just before 22:30 on Saturday. 

    The male motorcyclist, thought to be in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene and his family have been informed, officers said. Police have appealed for witnesses.

    Gill Bell, from the Marine Conservation Society in Wales, said any wild creatures should not be interfered with.

    "You would not allow a child to approach a wild dog with food, so why allow them to approach a seal?

    "Seals are like toddlers, they will put anything in their mouth."

    It comes after harbour master Steve Bassett put up warning signs to holidaymakers to keep away from wild seals amid concerns they "could take a child's arm off".

    Angry residents have taken to leaving notes threatening to damage cars parked on a residential street in Truro.

    They include a two-page flyer being found on a car parked near the Higher Trehaverne road area. It details why local residents have become increasingly fed up with other people parking outside their houses, and goes so far as to threaten the vehicle, saying drivers were being watched and that their cars could be damaged. 

    At the moment, there are no restrictions on roads in the area and anyone can legally park there. Parking in some city residential areas is currently the subject of a Cornwall Council consultation and review

    Floral tributes have been laid to a teenager who went missing in Devon.

    Nathan Wood was last seen near the River Dart in Totnes, Devon, on Friday evening in a "distressed state", police said. A body was found on Sunday by police searching the river for the missing 16-year-old. 

    It was feared he had fallen into the river after taking a so-called "new psychoactive substance" (NPS), officers said.

    The body has not been formally identified, but Nathan's family have been informed. Search teams recovered a body which would "appear to be a male of the right age range", a police spokesman said.

    Central defender Jordan Moore-Taylor and winger Lee Holmes were both hurt as the Grecians beat a Cardiff City side 3-0 in a pre-season friendly on Thursday night.

    "It could be anything from four days, to four weeks, to four months, you just don’t know until you have them in and you see the reaction from it," manager Paul Tisdale told the club website.

    People living in Torbay could see the way their libraries and public toilets are provided change as the council looks to deal with government funding cuts. 

    The authority has to save £19m by 2020. Groups who are interested in running the Bay's four libraries have been asked to come forward. 

    Councillors are also considering saving £200,000 from the flower beds and parks' budget.

    Today's the day that work on the hugely controversial busgate at Threemilestone is scheduled to start. 

    It's going to take eight months to complete, and it's beginning at a time when that part of Cornwall is already severely impeded by roadworks near Chacewater. Kenwyn Parish Council is poised to take legal action against Cornwall Council.

    Holidaymakers have been warned to keep away from wild seals amid concerns they "could take a child's arm off", a habour master has said.

    People swimming with seals in St Ives, Cornwall, has increased over the past few years, said the harbour master Steve Bassett.

    Now he has put up warning signs around the harbour.

    One expert said that "powerful" male seals can be very territorial and females will protect their young if they feel threatened.

    The Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital had one so-called never event in June, managers have confirmed.

    A patient, undergoing surgery for a thumb trigger release, external to the left hand under local anesthetic, underwent a partial carpal tunnel, external surgical incision instead before the mistake was realised. 

    The surgeon stopped immediately, so it was not a complete incision, and the correct procedure was undertaken, the hospital said. A full investigation was under way, managers added.
