    The skipper of a pleasure boat on the Isles of Scilly has been praised for pulling a man from the water after a boat with four people on board got swamped in dangerous conditions off Tresco on Sunday.

    St Mary's lifeboat said the casualties, who were all airlifted to hospital in Truro, were lucky to be alive after being washed on to rocks and hit by their vessel in a channel where the tide was running fast. 

    Skippering the Osprey close by, Andy Howell was taking a group wildlife watching. His passengers helped spot the casualty in the water. 

    He said: "I saw this massive great wave coming up, he was right in it and went shooting off down the face of it – like a big surfing wave – and heading straight into the shoreline. We saw two people up on the rocks ... we went in a bit closer, we had to be careful obviously; spotted a third, and then spotted somebody else in the water shouting 'help', saying he was 'going to sleep', and I thought we’ve got to go and get him.”

    A body has been found in north Devon by police searching for a missing woman, officers say, external.

    Police from Ilfracombe found the body of the woman, in her 40s, near Blithe Cove at about 13:30 on Sunday after a multi-agency search was launched after she was reported missing.

    Police said they were not treating the death as suspicious. The woman's next of kin has been informed, officers said.

    A vehicle was found overturned and on fire up an embankment on the A30 near Okehampton in Devon, the fire service has said., external

    Firefighters were called to the scene on the westbound carriageway between Drews Cottage and Sourton at about 01:30

    "The fire was extinguished but the vehicle was severely damaged," the service said.

    Researchers are leading one of the largest international projects of its kind to improve the lives of people with cystic fibrosis.

    They hope the study led by Exeter University, will lead to specific exercise treatments being prescribed by medics.

    Katie Murphy, who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis aged two, describes how climbing has helped her.

    Dr Keith Brownlee, director of impact at the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, says increased physical exercise can have long-term consequences for people with cystic fibrosis, including improved lung function, aerobic fitness and lung clearance.

    Cystic fibrosis is a life-limiting condition which can cause the lungs and digestive system to become clogged with thick, sticky mucus.

    Investigations are continuing after police searching for a missing teenager by the River Dart in Totnes found a body at the weekend

    There's still been no formal identification, but the family of Nathan Wood have been informed. 

    The 16-year-old was last seen heading towards the river at Totnes on Friday evening. His friends confirmed to police he had taken a psychoactive substance.

    Four people who were airlifted from a boat which was swamped in huge swell off Tresco Island, are "lucky to be alive", rescuers have said.

    One person ended up in the water and three others were washed on to rocks injured and distressed yesterday afternoon.

    The skipper of a local pleasure boat pulled one person from the water. The lifeboat requested the coastguard helicopter and all four were transferred to hospital in Truro.
