    The A30 Hayle bypass has reopened, despite being close to the scene of a fire in St Erth, highways officials have told the BBC.

    Road diversions are in place and some trains have been cancelled due to the blaze, which started at about 20:00 on Monday. 

    The St Erth Railway Station and the St Ives branch line will be closed all day. Crews from across Cornwall and some parts of Devon are battling it. 

    Penzance Fire Station Manager David Carlisle said: "At this stage, we're still putting water on the fire to contain it to the site."

    A train passenger has spoken of the 'uncontrollable inferno' which broke out at a recycling unit in St Erth, Cornwall last night.

    Harry Hodgson, who was on a train which pulled into St Erth station, said: "It just erupted and basically took a huge building out within minutes and all of a sudden it was just an uncontrollable inferno, a massive blaze."

    Mr Hodgson said "the general mood was excitement" because no-one had been injured and people were "enjoying the power and the beauty of the fire".

    Plymouth's Tom Daley and Dan Goodfellow have won bronze in the men's synchronised 10 platform diving.

    The pair needed the final dive of the night to overhaul Germany's duo and take just the second-ever British medal in men's synchro diving at an Olympic Games.

    It was the first Olympic Games for 19-year-old Plymouth-based diver Goodfellow, but a third for city native Daley, who made his debut as a 14-year-old at Beijing 2008.

    A fire at a tyre recycling centre in west Cornwall is in a "precarious location" between two railway lines, a senior fire officer says.

    Thick smoke can be seen rising from the site in St Erth. Road diversions are in place and some trains have been cancelled due to the blaze, which started at about 20:00 on Monday. Crews from across Cornwall and some parts of Devon are battling it.

    Cornwall Fire Service Group Manager Andrew Barrett said: "The site is trapped between the main rail line and the St Ives branch line, so we've also had to make sure that, working with Network Rail, that trains are stopped to allow crews to remain safe."

    There are road diversions in place and some trains have been cancelled due to a fire at a tyre recycling plant in St Erth. Travel problems include:

    • The A30 Hayle Bypass in Hayle closed in both directions between St Erth Roundabout and Loggans Moor Roundabout
    • A diversion is in operation - exit the A30 and follow the Black Diamond symbol via the B3301 through Hayle to then re-join the A30
    • National Rail Enquiries, external says the main-line and branch line at St Erth are currently blocked
    • Trains between St Erth and St Ives are not expected to run for the rest of the day
    • Trains between Truro and Penzance may be cancelled or delayed, with buses running between Penzance and Plymouth/Truro

    Plymouth divers Tom Daley and Dan Goodfellow are celebrating winning Olympic bronze in the men's synchronised 10m platform at Rio 2016.

    The pair, who began training together last October, clinched only GB's eighth Olympic diving medal after pipping Germany to third place with the final dive on the competition in a tense finish.

    While the 22-year-old is better known for his individual exploits, he and 19-year-old Goodfellow were fancied to win a synchro medal after taking European silver in May.

    Firefighters are battling to contain a blaze at a tyre recycling centre in St Erth which broke out on Monday evening.

    It's thought to have started at about 20:00, and the smoke and subsequent explosions could be seen from up to 20 miles away.
