    A 30-year-old man has been arrested in Somerset today on suspicion of terrorism offences.

    He was arrested at 12:20 by officers from the Metropolitan Police Service’s Counter Terrorism Command (SO15), supported by colleagues from Avon and Somerset and Devon and Cornwall Police, on suspicion of being involved in the preparation for acts of terrorism under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act.

    Police said: "Today’s arrest was pre-planned and intelligence-led as part of an investigation into Northern Ireland-related terrorism being led by SO15 in collaboration with Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) and the South West Counter Terrorism Intelligence Unit. No armed police were involved in today’s arrest.

    "The public can be reassured that there is no intelligence to suggest an immediate threat to our communities," police added.

    A nursing home in Yelverton, that's repeatedly been rated "inadequate" by inspectors, is closing down tomorrow. 

    Sixteen residents at Devonia House are having to move out. Devon County Council has helped find new homes for all residents who are elderly and have dementia. 

    The home was condemned as unsafe by Care Quality Commission inspectors and put into special measures in April 2015.

    Police are searching an address in Exminster in Devon after a serviceman was arrested earlier today.

    The arrest of the man, 30, in Somerset was part of an investigation into terrorism related to Northern Ireland.

    Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Searches are being conducted at an address in Exminster" and a "wooded area nearby".

    The Cornwall-based charity Shelterbox has confirmed it's sending a team to Italy in the aftermath of the earthquake.

    Initial assessment work is already under way and the charity hopes to be on the scene within 24 hours.

    It will be able to provide tents and other equipment to people who have been made homeless by the disaster.

    A terrorism-related arrest and searches are understood to be connected to two arms dumps found near Larne, Northern Ireland, earlier this year.

    The 30-year-old man was detained in Somerset with properties being searched in Larne and South Devon, where a wood has also been cordoned off.

    In March, the Police Service of Northern Ireland said they had uncovered a "significant terrorist hide" of bomb-making components and explosives at Carnfunnock Country Park.

    In May, a second significant arms cache, including an armour-piercing improvised rocket and two anti-personnel mines, was found at Capanagh Forest, near Larne.

    Both of the weapons dumps are thought to be linked to dissident republican paramilitaries.

    A Royal Marine is being questioned by detectives investigating Northern Ireland-linked terrorism, understood to be connected to two major dissident republican arms finds. 

    The 30-year-old serviceman was arrested in a pre-planned swoop in Somerset on Wednesday.

    The operation involved searches at a house and wooded area in south Devon. 

    In Northern Ireland, officers have also searched a number of properties in Larne, Co Antrim - near the two forest parks where the weapons dumps were discovered earlier this year. 

    The man, who is believed to be from Northern Ireland, was detained on suspicion of preparation for acts of terrorism.

    The arrest of an armed forces member in Somerset over Northern Ireland-related terrorism has been followed by searches in Larne, County Antrim.  

    The 30-year-old man was detained by officers from the Metropolitan Police Service's Counter Terrorism Command.  

    At least two properties on the Old Glenarm Road in Larne, County Antrim, are being searched in connection with the terrorism investigation

    Detectives in England are also carrying out searches at an address in South Devon.

    The man under arrest is suspected of being involved in preparing for acts of terrorism.
