    An "extremely busy" July and August saw Cornwall Air Ambulance respond to more than 170 missions throughout Cornwall.

    The patients were split evenly between locals and those visiting the county.

    Most of the summer's call outs were for injuries from accidents.

    Vetinary surgeon Katherine Garside said Lennie from Northam Burrows near Bideford was "twitching a lot" and "hallucinating".

    She said they thought he may have taken magic mushrooms or something similar, "he kept trying to catch something that wasn't there".

    Christopher Lock, 44, who has been missing from the Newton Abbot area since Sunday has been found safe, police say.

    He was found last night and taken to Torbay District Hospital to recover.

    Police thanked the Dartmoor Rescue Group for its assistance and all the members of the public who emailed or called with sightings.

    A charity manager says stable work has "dried up" for young people today, following a new report which shows high levels of youth unemployment in the South West.

    David Sayers, from the youth charity Tomorrow's People in Plymouth, said: "Many years ago people tended to have jobs for life, there tended to be a lot more apprenticeships... there were always big factories which you could go into and that's sort of all dried up now."

    Figures out today from the Chartered Management Institute and the charity EY Foundation showed more than 17% of young people in Cornwall were unemployed, compared to the national average of 11%.

    Plymouth's multimillion-pound new coach station has been officially opened.

    The site in Mayflower Street has seven bays, information screens, a ticket office and cafe and cost nearly £5m.

    It replaces the Bretonside bus station where a new leisure complex is due to be built.

    Cornwall Air Ambulance has flown its 26,000th mission since it began in 1987.

    The milestone call out was for a toddler who had fallen from a wall in Boscastle last month. The paramedic aircrew flew the little boy and his mother to North Devon District Hospital in 22 minutes.

    Paula Martin, chief executive of the charity said: "Cornwall Air Ambulance receives no government funding for rescue missions so the charity's supporters can be extremely proud... for the last 29 years their generosity has helped our paramedics to save thousands of lives."

    An unwell dog that was taken for treatment by his owner was high on drugs, vets have said.

    They examined Lennie the spaniel after he ate something that made him sick on the Northam Burrows, near Bideford in Devon, on Sunday.

    Veterinary surgeon Katherine Garside said Lennie "was twitching a lot" and "hallucinating".

    "We were suspicious he had some recreational drugs or maybe some magic mushrooms," she said.

    A housing association says it is "very sorry" for the time it has taken to move a couple in their sixties out of a damp house.

    Jeannette Padginton, 64, and her husband Steve Padginton, 65, from Launceston say they have suffered health problems after remaining in the house for nine months.

    "There is a shortage of homes in the area, so finding somewhere suitable to temporarily house Mr and Mrs Padginton has not been quick nor straightforward," Sanctuary Housing said.

    New multimillion-pound technology in the Saltash tunnel will allow it to be evacuated in an emergency in the "quickest and most efficient manner", an expert has said.

    Julian Strong from Highways England said: "In the unlikely event of a fire happening or any particular incident which would require us to evacuate the tunnel in a hurry, we would be able to use this pubic address system which will provide commentary throughout the length of the tunnel."

    The tunnel has been closed overnight for the last couple of months while the technology, which is also used for London's roads, has been installed.

    A councillor has said he is "worried" about the increase in the number of children being excluded from schools across Devon.

    Last year there were 99 exclusions, an increase of more than two thirds on the year before, according to Devon County Council.

    Labour councillor Andy Hannan said: "I'm worried because it has severe impacts on the children who are involved because if they are permanently excluded they're much less likely to do well in education".

    A man who claims he and his wife suffered health problems after living in a damp house for nine months says they should have been moved sooner.

    Steve Padginton, 65, and Jeannette Padginton, 64, have been offered alternative accommodation this week by the owners of the property Sanctuary Housing, after Cornwall Council identified the penetrating damp as a category 1 health hazard.

    "If it's that urgent why haven't the bosses said to the maintenance team get down there, get the people out and get the problem solved," Mr Padginton said.

    It replaces the Bretonside Bus Station where a new leisure complex is due to be built. National Express will run the new station which is expected to see more than 50 departures a day, starting tomorrow.
