    Parents, teachers and pupils have been left with "a sour taste in our mouths" after the lead from a school roof was stolen over the summer holidays.

    "We spent a lot of the time last year getting the school redecorated and parents came in, the children helped, and we were looking forward to coming back to a lovely sparkling new school," mother Jayne Lewis said.

    West Down Primary School in Ilfracombe will have to raise the money itself for a new roof after it discovered a clause in their insurance policy meant they were not covered.

    • On the A3075 at Goonhavern Garden centre in Cornwall we have had reports of faulty traffic lights
    • In Ottery St Mary on the B3174 Barrack Road, there are temporary traffic lights for roadworks near Thorne Farm Way
    • Chope Road in Northam is closed due to roadworks at Heywood Road
    • At Exeter Airport disruption is possible on Skybus flights to and from the Isles of Scilly due to the weather conditions at St Mary's

    Truro City bounced back from Saturday's 6-0 loss to East Thurrock United to beat Hungerford Town 2-0 and record their first home win of the season.

    Cody Cooke opened the scoring after 19 minutes before Niall Thompson got the second goal just before half time.

    Assistant manager Rory Fallon took charge of the side after manager Lee Hodges contracted flu as Truro moved up to 16th place in National League South, ending a five-game winless streak.

    More than 17% of people aged between 16 and 24 years old in Cornwall are unemployed compared to a national average of just 11%, according to a new report.

    The figures, published by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and the charity EY Foundation, come as some employers say the uncertainty of the Brexit vote means they will slow up on recruiting.

    Nicky Gillet, 21, from across the Tamar in Plymouth, says the job market is tough: "People my age don't have a lot of experience and they won't give it to you for you to gain the experience, so it's kind of like a rock and a hard place."

    The Saltash tunnel with its multimillion-pound technology upgrade is almost ready to be unveiled.

    The new cutting edge equipment, which is expected to help control the traffic system, includes 19 new digital cameras and a special public address system which allows drivers to hear warning instructions throughout the tunnel.

    The tunnel has been closed to traffic most evenings for the last two months.

    There has been a sharp rise in the number of children being permanently excluded from schools in Devon.

    Last year there were 99 exclusions, an increase of more than two thirds on the year before.

    Devon County Council, which compiled the information, says it is investigating the reasons for the trend.

    A couple from Cornwall say their health has suffered after trying for nine months to get "extensive" damp and mould in their sheltered housing treated. 

    Cornwall Council has identified the penetrating damp as what is known as a Category 1 health hazard. 

    The owner, Sanctuary Housing, has apologised and said it will be offering 64-year-old Jeannette Padginton and her husband, 65-year-old Steve from Launceston alternative accommodation this week.

  13. Pub 'severely damaged' by firepublished at 08:02 British Summer Time 7 September 2016

    A pub in Exeter has been severely damaged by a fire which required six crews to tackle it.

    The first crew was called to the Cavern Club in Queen Street just after 22:00 and found smoke coming from the building. The other crews were called and firefighters tackled the blaze in the kitchen roof space. 

    The fire was out by 02:00 but the basement area of the club was severely damaged. Fire and rescue teams say the cause was accidental.
