    A Plymouth man has pleaded guilty to fly-tipping in a country lane just outside of Bodmin.

    Joseph Buckingham, 30, of Woodend Road, Plymouth has been ordered to pay £2,095.

    Cornwall Council receives about 4,000 reports of fly-tipping on public and private land a year. 

    Cabinet Member for Communities Geoff Brown said: "This decision sends out a clear message that Cornwall Council will do everything possible to challenge fly-tipping and when taken to court this irresponsible action can prove extremely costly."

    The wait continues for the supporters of a former Royal Marine from Somerset - serving an eight year sentence for murdering an Afghan insurgent.

    They are calling for an urgent decision from the Criminal Cases Review Commission, which is examining the original conviction of former Sgt Alexander Blackman, who was based in Plymouth, in 2013. 

    The case was referred to them 10 months ago.

    His wife Claire says they want "confidence in the decision" but "the waiting" was the "hardest part".

    The commission says it's more important to get the correct verdict than a quick one.

    There's been major disruption on the A38, A30 and M5 near Exeter this lunchtime. 

    A car overturned on the Plymouth-bound carriageway near Kennford this morning with one person taken to hospital by air ambulance. 

    The road was completely closed for two hours - traffic remains very busy in the area.

    The government says it will remain committed to keeping South West beaches clean after Britain leaves the European Union.

    The Conservative MP for Tiverton and Honiton, Neil Parish, raised concerns in the Commons that the country won't be bound by strict EU laws on cleanliness after Brexit.

    But Brexit Minister, Robin Walker, gave an assurance that beach standards will be kept up.

    Critics of proposals to build what's been called "Britain's first six star resort" in Cornwall claim the development will have a negative impact on the environment and the local infrastructure.

    The development on the former Crealy Adventure Park near Wadebridge was overwhelming voted through by councillors earlier.

    Supporters say the scheme supports economic growth and will create jobs but Adam Tomlinson who owns the Old Mill Bistro a few miles away said: " I just don't think the area needs it. The roads around here can't support the volume they will need to survive."

    Chris Shears, the Economic Development Officer at Mid Devon District Council, says it's too early to say the government is backing the idea but he wants to explore the feasibility study to see if the business model can be rolled out not just in the UK but in other parts of the world.

    A new report suggests the quality of food is a vital part of people's holiday experience.

    The study carried out in St Ives by social scientists from the University of Coventry revealed that after travel and accommodation costs, food is the next big thing visitors spend their money on. 

    They also found many holidaymakers tend to break with their normal habits, avoiding supermarket food and chains and opting for local fresh produce.

    The National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth has announced Roger Maslin, former managing director of Wembley Stadium, as its new chief executive.

    Roger Maslin has spent 17 years at Wembley, initially as finance director and then seven years as managing director.

    He said: "I look forward to working with the team here to make a significant difference in the world of marine conservation, research and education."

    The man behind the development created Alton Towers, and will now build 236 holiday lodges, a tropical pool, restaurants and activities centre next door to Camel Creek Adventure Park.

    Fire crews were called to Valentine Road yesterday afternoon. 

    The fire started accidentally and was confined to the garage, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said.

    The Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre in Plymouth has been rated as 'outstanding' by the regulator.

    The centre, which treated more than 4,000 patients in the last year, was highlighted for cleanliness, excellent team work, patients consistently in feeling highly satisfied with the care they received, and exceptional efforts to accommodate the cultural needs of patients.

    The hospital is part of Care UK Limited and provides surgery and outpatient services exclusively to NHS patients. The Care Quality Commission visited the hospital in July.

    Parents in Cornwall are being advised by education bosses to tone down their comments about so-called killer clowns on social media because they're adding to children's fears.

    As Halloween approaches some headteachers in the county are asking parents not to allow their children to dress as clowns because of the craze.   

    Police across England have been called to dozens of incidents in which pranksters dress as "creepy clowns" to deliberately scare people.

    The culprits are said to be following a trend that started in the US.
