Alexander Blackman's wife Claire has talked about her husband's case which is under review by the Criminal Cases Review Commission.

The former Plymouth-based Royal Marine was convicted of murdering an Afghan insurgent.

Claire Blackman said: "On advice from our legal team, they are confident we have a really strong case that should take Al's conviction case back to the appeal court.

"He accepts he fired his weapon and he shouldn't have done, and he absolutely would agree the circumstances of that tour, the environment and the incredible pressure that he and the lads were under makes it very difficult to come to a decision in our courts in our country, away from that war zone.

"I think he would accept manslaughter as a lesser charge and a way to get home."
