    BT is being asked to restore a working telephone in a phone box in west Cornwall where locals argue there's a limited mobile signal.

    Nancledra Parish Council said it was not consulted over the phone's removal and the service was a "vital" lifeline in an emergency.

    BT said the phonebox was rarely used and its research concluded a signal did exist. 

    Parish council chairman Kevin Hughes (pictured) was adamant mobiles don't work in the village. He said: "It's a case of public safety, really. You won't get a signal for a mile-and-a-half north, south, east or west. We're in the bottom of a valley ... the phone box is essential."

    Police in Devon say they will to continue to support, external Metropolitan Police with investigations after a suspicious device alert in Newton Abbot over the weekend.

    Homes were evacuated and a 200m (650ft) cordon set up after the device was found at the house in Tudor Road on Saturday (pictured). It was later found to be "not viable".

    Devon and Cornwall Police thanked people in the cordon area "for their patience and co-operation in this matter".

    The Devon search was triggered by a counter-terror police investigation over the discovery of a suspicious item on a Tube train on London last week.

    A 19-year-old was arrested in north London on Friday, a day after that device was blown up in a controlled explosion at North Greenwich station. The teenager can be detained until 28 October after a magistrates' court hearing.

    A controversial sex scene in the eighth episode of the second series of hit Cornwall-based show Poldark is "definitely portrayed very much as a rape" and sends an "appalling message", a women's support charity says.

    The scene, involves lead character Ross Poldark with his former fiancee, Elizabeth.

    Sarah Green, of the charity End Violence Against Women, said: "The female character says 'no' and there are also non-verbal signs. She is moving away from him and pulling away from him. There is lots of stuff that is ambiguous." 

    She added: "It is a really appalling message, which is they have made the representation of non-consensual sex ambiguous by making her appear to change her mind." 

    Asked why she thought this was the case, she continued: "The problem the producers have found, because this character is extremely popular, they can't represent him as that, they can't represent him as doing something criminal."

    Exeter City supporters have voted to ask the club to renegotiate the contract of manager Paul Tisdale.

    The League Two club are owned by their fans via the Exeter City Supporters' Trust, and passed a motion on Saturday calling on the club's board to confirm if Tisdale has a notice period in his contract, and if so to serve notice on it and negotiate a new one.

    In 2008 Tisdale, who is the longest serving manager in the EFL, agreed a two-year rolling deal with the club.

    More than £100,000 of gold jewellery has been taken in a burglary at a shop in St Ives, police say.

    Devon and Cornwall Police said the Kudos shop in Fore Street was raided just after 03:30 last Tuesday after a glass pane in the front door was smashed. 

    Officers said they believed only one person was involved and appealed for witnesses after a man wearing a dark hoody top and a dark gilet, with dark trousers and shoes, was seen in the area.

    The Cornwall councillor with responsibility for children and young people, Andrew Wallis, has told the BBC that up to 10 unaccompanied 16 and 17-year-olds will be accepted in the county by April 2017. 

    He said it was too early to say if any of those to be based in North Devon would be moved to Cornwall.

    Police investigating the discovery of part of a human foot in woods near Truro say they have contacted the mother of a local missing person despite the remains not being formally identified yet.

    A walking boot containing the remains was found by a dog walker in Nansavallan Woods last Thursday evening. Devon and Cornwall Police said there were "not currently believed to be any suspicious circumstances" about the discovery. 

    The force added that officers had been offering support to the mother of missing man Lee Gilbert "whilst enquiries continue". Mr Gilbert (pictured) was last seen on 9 June at Truro train station.

    The South West has some of the highest numbers of diabetes-related amputations in the country, according to data obtained by the BBC.

    There have been just over 500 amputations in the North, East and West Devon area over the last three years - the highest number in the country. Cornwall is also in the top 10, with nearly 400 amputations during the same period.

    Campaigners said urgent action was needed to prevent diabetic complications.

    Police have appealed for witnesses after a front door in Barnstaple was shot with what was believed to be a shotgun.

    Officers said they were called to a firearms incident, external at about 00:45 on Saturday 15 October "following reports of a firearm being discharged in Summerland Street".

    They said a person dressed in black and wearing a ski mask was seen fleeing from the scene and head down Barbican Terrace towards Rock Park shortly after the incident.

    More than 20 child migrants from the Jungle in Calais who have arrived at a residential centre in north Devon could be in the county for up to six weeks, it is understood.

    The youngsters, who are all believed to be male and under the age of 18, arrived by bus at about 03:00.

    It's believed the youngsters - who originally came from Afghanistan, Sudan and Syria - will receive medical checks before decisions are made about what will happen to them next.

    A head teacher wrote a letter to the tooth fairy on behalf of a five-year-old boy who was upset when he lost his tooth at school. 

    Harrison Townsend's wobbly tooth came out and went missing on the playground at Denbury Primary School, south Devon.

    The incident happened on Sunday lunchtime in a Morrisons car park in Plymouth.

    Up to 70 child migrants from the so-called Jungle camp in Calais expected at a temporary "respite facility" in Devon are unaccompanied, vulnerable children, the Home Office has told the BBC.

    They're being brought to a hostel from London, where they’ve been staying since leaving the camp.

    The Home Office refused to comment on the details of the transfer. But it said the children were often traumatised and their privacy should be respected as they receive support to rebuild their lives.

    Meanwhile, more than 1,200 police and officials in France have begun an operation to clear the migrant camp in Calais (pictured).
