Another fire at the Conservatory on North Street in Exeter actually revealed beautiful Tudor panelling.

He said archaeologists will be very interested to get into the Well House, right next door to the Royal Clarence Hotel, as they believe the pair of late 17th century houses have a structure embedded inside it that's medieval.

At today's briefing at County Hall in Truro the draft Budget for the next financial year will be unveiled.

It would seem further job reductions at the authority are on the cards, that no area of spending is safe from the axe and substantial savings are earmarked through things like offloading leisure centres and libraries.

There have been stark warnings for some time from senior councillors and officers that as the central government spending squeeze continues and demand for services grows the council has to make big changes.

The draft budget will be discussed at Cabinet next week, before going to full council.
