    The weather will remain rather breezy with outbreaks of patchy rain for many overnight. It'll be a mild night with low cloud and fog shrouding many coastal areas and higher ground such as Dartmoor. The minimum temperature will be 11C (52F)

    On Saturday, the rain will move eastwards through the day to affect all parts. It will turn persistent and locally heavy, with drier, clearer conditions following during the evening. The maximum temperature will be 13C (55F)

    The entire board of the only school on the Isles of Scilly is going to resign.

    The Council of the Isles of Scilly says an interim board should be in place at the Five Islands School by January.

    Last month the school received an Ofsted rating of 'inadequate'. 

    The governors decided to resign because they refused to accept an 'action plan' that's been drawn up for dealing with the problems highlighted by Ofsted.

    In a statement the council thanked the governors for their work and said it has "taken advice and appropriate steps to ensure that the members of the interim board are well-placed to support and challenge the school to make progress to secure the necessary improvements".

    Two surfers injured during military service will compete for Team GB in the US this weekend at the ISA World Adaptive Surfing Championship.

    Chris Jones, from Ivybridge near Plymouth and Martin Pollock, from Mullion, Cornwall, have arrived in San Diego, with the competition beginning today and 18 countries taking part.

    Both athletes have been supported in their recovery journeys, which have culminated in competing at the championship, by charity Help for Heroes.

    A man from Liverpool has been jailed for two years after he was caught with 220 wraps of cocaine and heroin inside his body. 

    Kieron Fallon, 27 of Radway Road, Huyton pleaded guilty to two counts of possession with intent to supply at Exeter Crown Court on Friday.

    The drugs runner was picked up by police on the M5 at Collompton with £5,500 worth of drugs inside his body.

    Police are appealing for a man after he arranged with a second-hand dealer to do a house clearance at a property which turned out to be a holiday home.

    The dealer was given a key to the house in Pelynt to do the clerance, but became suspicious and returned the following day.

    Neighbours confirmed that the property was in fact a holiday home and the real owners were contacted.  

    The man attended the second hand store two days later and was challenged by the dealer. The man then left in a black Mercedes which was missing its bonnet emblem and had damage to the bonnet.

    A veteran who lost both legs and his left arm while serving in Afghanistan, will represent Team GB at the ISA World Surfing Championship.  

    Martin Pollock, 33,  from Mullion, joined the Army in 2008 was serving in Afghanistan when he was shot in the leg, and after returning to the front line, lost both legs and his left arm in an explosion.

    Martin spent much of the following five years between Headley Court Rehabilitation Centre in Surrey and running his fish and chip shop, The Galleon, in his home town in Cornwall with the support of family.

    A drug runner who was caught on his way to Devon with £5,500 worth of drugs inside his body has been jailed for two years.

    Kieron Fallon, 27 from Liverpool pleaded guilty to two count of possession with intent to supply.

    He was carrying 72 wraps of crack cocaine and 152 of heroin when he was stopped by police on the M5 at Collompton.

    A veteran who will represent Team GB at the ISA World Adaptive Sailing Championships was discharged from the Army Air Corps aged 25, barely able to walk.

    "There was nothing else like surfing, but I had to give it up three years ago as my condition got worse. The fibromyalgia shut my brain down one day when I was out by myself paddling and I had to be rescued. I nearly died."

    Chris got back in his kayak in July.

    “There’s a saying in surfing, ‘only a surfer knows the feeling’, it’s hard to describe. You have to focus on that moment in time, you completely clear your mind and just let it happen. There have been times surfing has saved me from some real black spots."

    Deputy Chief Constable Bill Skelly said the behaviour of a police officer who was sacked after the sexual assault of a woman directly contradicts the force’s values, the Code of Ethics and the standards of professional behaviour.

    He said: "The public rightly sets high expectations of the police and on this occasion the officer’s conduct seriously breached this expectation.

    "Discreditable conduct will not be tolerated within Devon and Cornwall Police. It is our duty to maintain the highest of standards and good reputation of what is an honourable profession."

    Police are appealing for witnesses after a second-hand dealer was sold items from a house in Pelynt and given a key to clear the whole property - by a man (pictured) who did not own it.

    The burglary happened between 27 September and 30 September, when a man accompanied a second hand dealer to an address in Pelynt and sold him various items from the house.

    The man told the dealer the property had belonged to his deceased parents - but it was actually a holiday home.

    The amount of money councils in England generated from parking charges and fines rose significantly last year, the RAC Foundation says.

    The charity says that after deducting running costs, local authorities made an "eye-wateringly large" £756m.

    The figure was calculated by taking income from parking charges and penalty notices and then deducting running costs.

    The figures showed Cornwall Council had a surplus of £9.8m.

    Scientists have found that vaccinating badgers against bovine TB does not change their behaviour or increase the risk of them spreading the disease.

    Concerns had been raised that vaccinating badgers against the disease could alter where they go and increase transmission of the disease to cattle, in the same way that culling can make badgers move around more and spread TB. 

    But researchers, who were tracking the behaviour of 54 badgers with GPS collars on four farm sites in Cornwall, found that 15 animals which had received the TB vaccine at least once moved around their territory in the same way as the others.

    A police officer sacked after a woman was seriously sexually assaulted will not be named, Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed.

    The misconduct panel, held in Exeter, determined that the identity of the officer should not be made public in the interests of the complainant, who decided not to pursue criminal action against the officer, and other family members affected by the case.

    The conduct was off-duty and did not arise from or relate to the performance of police duties, the panel said.

    The winter vomiting bug norovirus is spreading through south west communities at double the rate of last year, figures show.

    There were 19 reported cases in schools and nurseries for the same period last year compared with 48 this year.

    Schools, nurseries and care homes are especially at risk and public health experts are asking people to be vigilant to stop the spread.
