    However, thicker cloud will move in again from the west towards the end of the day with some light rain in the far west towards evening.

    A police officer sacked after a woman was sexually assaulted will not face criminal charges because the offence happened abroad, police have confirmed.

    A statement from Devon and Cornwall Police said: "The incident happened abroad and no criminal action in England and Wales was possible. The victim also decided not to pursue criminal action in this case."

    The officer was sacked after an eight-day hearing where a panel found the allegations proved.

    Critics of the a new bid for a single mayor for south Devon question where it would leave the rest of Devon - the poor and sparsely-populated rural north - and there have been allegations of disloyalty.

    A senior Conservative councillor on Torbay Council described the decision to pursue a rival bid to the one already agreed with the rest of the county as "back-stabbing".

    The Local Government Secretary told the BBC he "looked forward to receiving" the bid.

    A police officer has been sacked without notice for the serious sexual assault of a woman.

    In an eight-day private hearing at Devon and Cornwall Police's headquarters in Exeter, a panel found the allegations proved and that the conduct amounted to gross misconduct.

    The allegations were of serious sexual assault of an adult female and were said to amount to abuse of authority, respect and courtesy; unlawful use of force; and discreditable conduct under the Police (Conduct) Regulations 2012.

    Player-coach Kieran Hallett has taken over as head coach at Plymouth Albion.

    The news follows the surprise resignation of head coach Dan Parkes on Wednesday. 

    Hallett said: "I'm obviously happy to be taking over at Albion and I'm looking forward to the challenge and can’t wait to get started."

    Rail regulators are investigating after a man with one leg was left "disgusted" after his treatment at a Cornish railway station.

    Bob Walker was on his way home from Bristol when he says he ended up getting hit by the sliding doors of a train at Bodmin Parkway and got his crutch trapped.

    Assistance at all the stations on his journey had been pre-booked but Mr Walker claims Great Western staff at Bodmin Parkway said they were unable to lift the wheelchair ramp onto the train.

    In a statement Great Western Railway said: "We are investigating why this customer did not immediately receive the help he had asked for in getting off his train."

    An investigation has been launched after amputee Bob Walker said he was hit by the sliding doors of a train at Bodmin Parkway and ended up with his crutch being trapped despite pre-booking assistance at the station.

    In a statement Great Western Railway said: "We are investigating why this customer did not immediately receive the help he had asked for in getting off his train.

    "As he attempted to disembark he alerted on board staff, and our station staff were able to provide a ramp so he could alight safely."

    Plans to unite south Devon under a single elected mayor follow a visit to the county by the Local Government Secretary Sajid Javid in October when he made it clear that only "ambitious" devolution bids including mayors would get new money and significant powers.

    It cuts across an existing devolution bid covering the whole of Devon and Somerset which has already been submitted to the government.

    All of the councils involved in the new proposals had signed up to the earlier bid - but there has been growing frustration at its slow progress and the refusal of the councillors leading it to accept a mayor.

    The Health and Safety Regulator for rail is to launch an investigation after an amputee says he was hit by the sliding doors of a train at Bodmin Parkway and ended up with his crutch being trapped.

    Bob Walker was returning from a medical assessment in Bristol.

    All his travel arrangements had been pre-booked for him by an insurance company including assistance at stations to get him off and on with a wheelchair.

    But Bob says when he arrived at Bodmin Parkway staff there were abusive and initially refused to provide a ramp.
