Delabole wind farm's 25th anniversary 'an incredible achievement'published at 13:24 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2016
13:24 GMT 21 December 2016Andrew Segal
Local LiveThe 25th anniversary of a wind farm in north Cornwall - Britain's first commercial wind farm - is an "incredible achievement", the company behind it says.
The Delabole site, which opened in 1991, has generated enough energy to cook 40 million Christmas turkeys, operator Good Energy said.
Wind power accounts for 12% of the UK's electricity, although opponents claim it's noisy and onshore farms are unsightly. However, chief executive Juliet Davenport said the anniversary was a "big moment".
She said: "The success of the wind farm has largely been down to the support of the local community who are the real custodians of this site. It's thanks to them, and their belief in the project, that has helped make Delabole the perfect model for further wind power developments here in the UK."

'The dog ate my tax return'published at 12:11 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2016
12:11 GMT 21 December 2016Andrew Segal
Local LiveTax bosses are already warning people to not forget to do their 2015-16 self assessments after Christmas and new year.
HM Revenue & Customs said that there were about 1.1m people registered for self assessment in South West, and that, every year, it received "a number of unusual excuses" why people didn’t complete their tax returns on time.
This year, nationally, they included:
- My tax return was on my yacht, which caught fire
- A wasp in my car caused me to have an accident and my tax return, which was inside, was destroyed
- My wife helps me with my tax return, but she had a headache for 10 days
- And don't forget this oldie but goodie: "My dog ate my tax return...and all of the reminders"
All these excuses were used in appeals against penalties for late submissions - and all were unsuccessful, HMRC said. The deadline is 31 January.

11:34 GMT 21 December 2016Jonathan Morris
BBC News OnlineDrivers face a two-mile diversion just to get down one road on a housing estate in Dawlish after a mix-up between two different developers.
Carhaix Way is meant to join two neighbouring developments but there is about 1ft difference in the height between them - and a fence has been built where the developments meet.
Carhaix Way resident Kaylea Ibbeson said one delivery driver left a note on the fence rather than drive all the way round to her house.
"He said he was unable to deliver the item," she said.
