    Manager Kevin Nicholson says Torquay United's new owners must earn the trust of the National League club's fans.

    The takeover of the Gulls by Swindon-based Gaming International (GI) was confirmed on Tuesday.

    "They have got to show that they are in it for all the right reasons, and they assure me that they are," the 36-year-old told BBC Radio Devon.

    "I spoke to them very openly and honestly, making them aware their takeover has not been overly positively taken (among fans). They're aware of that. These guys have got a lot to prove but they have technically saved Torquay United right now."

    More than £200,000 is to be spent by the Church of England in Cornwall to buy a house for Syrian refugees in Cornwall. 

    The Bishop of Truro said it was the church's duty to offer help to people who had lost their homes in the civil war that's raged for more than five years. 

    The Right Reverend Tim Thornton said it was the most practical way to help.

    A man is in a critical condition in hospital after a stabbing in Plymouth, police say.

    Officers said the 31-year-old was found injured in Albert Road on Thursday night, but they believed the assault happened in nearby Exmouth Road. The man is being treated for knife wounds in Derriford Hospital.

    Two men, aged 58 and 46, were arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

    A woman who is in hospital has asked her family to appeal for help finding her two Jack Russells that escaped after a car accident.

    Linda Camborne-Paynter, 65, is expected to have an operation to have metal plates put in both of her arms today.

    Her car flipped after hitting a bollard and large rock near Sweetshouse on the B3269 between Lostwithiel and Bodmin last night.

    The dogs escaped when the driver of the vehicle behind opened the car door to check on her.

    Her son, Brett Camborne-Paynter, said his mum is only thinking about the dogs: "She had broken both her arms, but she was crying because she thinks she might have hurt the dogs, and she's worried she won't see them again".

    The search for the two brothers, called Dexter and Snowy, is continuing this morning. Anyone with information is asked to contact Pelyn Veterinary Group.

    The government's promising £60m a year for areas in England where there are high numbers of second homes. 

    Of this, £20m will go the South West, which is the most popular region for second homes in the country, the government said. 

    The money will be given to community groups via local councils for the next five years, with the aim of providing affordable housing for first-time buyers, Housing Minister Gavin Barwell said.

    A pensioner from Paignton has completed his first two weeks in a new job, after putting an ad in his local paper looking for work to save him from "dying of boredom".

    Eighty-nine-year-old Joe Bartley was flooded with offers and accepted a job at a small bistro, Cantina in Paignton. 

    The owners of Cantina said he was doing really well and was already proving a very useful member of the team.

    A woman has been hospitalized and two Jack Russel dogs have gone missing after a road crash in Cornwall, fire crews say.

    The woman had to be cut free after the single-vehicle crash near Bodmin on Thursday night. She was then taken to hospital with two broken arms and is due to undergo surgery.

    Lostwithiel Fire Station said on Facebook, external: "The vehicle had two Jack Russells in that escaped from the car and ran off. Unfortunately, we have been unable to locate these dogs and ask if anybody finds to stray Jack Russells in the Sweetshouse area, would you kindly take them to Pelyn Vets who have been informed of the incident."
