The amount of money being spent on each pupil in Devon and Cornwall schools has dropped by more than 1%.

The average, real terms spending on each pupil in Devon and Cornwall schools for the current school year is £4,099, a drop of £44 on the previous year.

While the individual schools budget in England went up by about £60m in real terms last year, an increase in the number of children being taught means less money is now being spent on each individual pupil.

The growth in pupil numbers is being fuelled by the effects of immigration and a higher fertility rate.
