    Exeter scrum-half Will Chudley is out for two months with a chest injury.

    The 28-year-old, who has been first choice for the Chiefs this season, has torn a pectoral muscle.

    Dave Lewis started in place of Chudley in Sunday's win over Ulster while Stuart Townsend came on for his first game outside the Anglo-Welsh Cup.

    "You've just got to get on with it, and we'll get on with it with a team that's got some momentum at the moment," head coach Rob Baxter told BBC Radio Devon.

    Best-selling children's writer and illustrator Babette Cole has died at the age of 66.

    She created more than 70 picture books, including Princess Smartypants, and her best-seller Doctor Dog was adapted as a successful cartoon series.

    Redruth forwards coach Adrian Rutter says veteran centre Pale Nonu can have no complaints after he was sent off in their 28-14 win at Redingensians.

    The veteran centre was red-carded for a high tackle early in the second half as the Reds got their third win in a row.

    "It was probably a little bit high, so Pale took his medicine, no arguments," Rutter told BBC Radio Cornwall. "It did make it a bit more challenging in the second half. Playing 14 against 15 in the second half is never easy."

    But Rutter added: "Credit to the boys, they dug in deep and pulled a result out."

    A Plymouth school has been the first in Devon to host a poignant and thought-provoking exhibition about the life of Anne Frank and her family – with students acting as guides.

    A group of 15 students at Stoke Damerel Community College were given a day's training by Tam Fowles from the Anne Frank Trust's A History for Today exhibition.

    The exhibition was on show at the college from 9 to 13 January and, once the selected students were trained, they were then able to act as peer guides to fellow students and visitors to the exhibition.

    "The students have been wonderful, extremely perceptive and attentive and have taken a very thoughtful approach to their roles,” said Tam.

  5. Tunisia attack: UK tourist inquests told of delayed responsepublished at 14:38 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2017

    The attack at a Tunisian beach resort that led to the deaths of 30 British tourists could have been stopped sooner, a UK coroner has heard.

    Islamist gunman Seifeddine Rezgui opened fire near Sousse in June 2015, killing 38 holidaymakers in total.

    The counsel to the inquests into the British deaths said a Tunisian judge's report had identified failings by local security units before police arrived. It said they had "deliberately... slowed down to delay their arrival".

    The victims included 59-year-old Bodmin man Stephen Mellor, who was killed as he attempted to shield his wife. She was injured in the attack. The hearing continues.

    A man's in a critical condition with head injuries after a collision with a car in St Austell.

    It happened in in Penwinnick Road at about 21:45 on Friday.

    The 52-year-old is being treated at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. Police have appealed for witnesses.

    Police and Dartmoor search and rescue teams are at Burrator Reservoir, looking for a cyclist who went missing at the weekend.

    The search was called off as light faded yesterday but resumed this morning.

    The 30-year-old man was reported missing from Plympton. Police have not yet released his name.

    Cornish Pirates coach Alan Paver says his side's improved discipline is a major factor in their return to form.

    Pirates got a bonus point as they beat Ospreys' Premiership Select 34-10 in Maesteg to consolidate second place in their British and Irish Cup pool.

    Paver told BBC Radio Cornwall: "Over the last month we've had a full review of why we lost close games and it came down to our discipline. We've had a massive focus on what can we do and what's in our control."

    Pirates gave up just six penalties in the whole game as Brett Beukeboom scored two tries, while Tyler Gendall, Marlen Walker and a penalty try earned the Penzance-based club their bonus point.

    Argyle said last week they were re-opening the Mayflower Terrace for Wednesday’s FA Cup tie against Liverpool following "unprecedented demand, external" for tickets.

    They added that they were to "re-introduce temporary seating in the Mayflower for the first time since 2010" and the extra seating would raise Home Park’s capacity "by more than 1,800" for the "once-in-a-generation match".

    Plymouth Argyle boss Derek Adams says it was difficult for his side to focus on their League Two win over Stevenage as they prepare to face Liverpool.

    The Pilgrims came from behind to win 4-2 ahead of the FA Cup third-round replay with the Premier League giants having drawing 0-0 at Anfield earlier this month against the youngest-ever side fielded by the Reds.

    "It's been very difficult for us," Adams said after the Stevenage win. "We've got people talking about the Liverpool game since we drew at Anfield and everybody else around the place forgot about the Stevenage game.

    Truro's bus station has been closed for a week for maintenance work, bus operator First Kernow says.

    Large sections of the concourse beside Lemon Quay have been dug up by contractors since the closure on Saturday.

    Passengers are being told to catch services at alternative locations, including Boscawen Street, Lemon Quay and Victoria Square.

    The station has suffered with problems of structural subsidence previously, with engineers saying then that problems could have been caused by the station's proximity to the River Kenwyn.

    A multi-million pound road improvement scheme - set to last for four months - has started on the A38 in the Glynn Valley.

    Work is being carried out to reinforce retaining walls and replace a collapsed culvert.

    For the first two weeks the road will be closed overnight. Highways England then plans to operate a one-way system of road diversions during the day. 

    Residents in the area have already faced months of disruption from the A30 roadworks at Temple.

    The inquests into the deaths of 30 UK tourists killed at a Tunisian resort in June 2015 have begun with a minute's silence in memory of the victims.

    Islamist gunman Seifeddine Rezgui opened fire on holidaymakers on the beach near Sousse, killing 38 in total. The terror attack is the deadliest on Britons since the 7 July London bombings in 2005.

    Stephen Mellor, 59, from Bodmin in Cornwall, was killed as he attempted to shield his wife.

    The hearings at London's Royal Courts of Justice are expected to take seven weeks.

    The fire service in Devon has begun advertising for new full-time firefighters for the first time in eight years. 

    Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said it needed new crew members to fill behind an ageing workforce which was nearing retirement. 

    Anyone interested in applying must be older than 17-and-a-half, have a full driving licence and be able to swim 50m. 

    The chance to apply opened at midday, external and closes in a week's time.

    Police have used social media to shut down rumours about the scale of a stabbing incident last night.

    Devon and Cornwall Police chased a 46-year-old man before arresting him on suspicion of attempted murder in Exeter. 

    Speculation was rife on social media that the suspect had escaped from Exeter Prison and that several people had been stabbed, some on the grounds of Exeter University. 

    Police later confirmed it was a domestic incident that left a 30-year-old man with non-life-threatening stabbing injuries.
