    A woman from Cornwall whose husband was killed in the Tunisia terrorist attack in 2015 has told how she saved her own life by pretending to already be dead. 

    Cheryl Mellor was on holiday with her husband Stephen at a luxury hotel when the attacks which killed 38 people took place in June 2015. 

    Today the inquest was told that Stephen, 59, was trying to save her when he was killed. 

    The couple had hidden behind their sun loungers near the hotel.

    The wife of a Bodmin man killed in the Tunisia terror attack in 2015 has told his inquest that he was a hero.

    Cheryl Mellor said she saw the gunman fire at her with an orange coloured flame from his gun. 

    She was hit in the left hand an left leg.

    During the shooting Stephen Mellor said to his wife: "If one of us survives - tell the kids we love them", she told the inquest.

    The inquest of a Bodmin man killed in a terror attack in Tunisia has heard from his wife.

    Cheryl Mellor said: "I am only here today due to the bravery of my husband Steve. He sacrificed himself. Steve is a hero to me.

    "I believe the suspect wanted to kill me but he didn't succeed."

    Stephen Mellor was among 30 Britons killed in Sousse on 26 June 2015.

    The gunman who killed 30 British people in the Tunisia hotel massacre was smiling, according to a holidaymaker who ran for his life. 

    Gunman Seifeddine Rezgui calmly stalked the beach at the Mediterranean resort of Sousse, reloading his automatic rifle and shooting at helpless tourists at the five-star Riu Imperial Marhaba Hotel on 26 June 2015, an inquest heard. 

    Tourist Stephen Leake said he spotted Rezgui from about 20ft away. Mr Leake said, in a statement read out at London's Royal Courts of Justice: "His teeth were white not yellow. He seemed to be smiling." 

    Rezgui killed 38 tourists in total. Mr Leake saw him "scatter" his shots but said he did not seem to be a "professional" gunman. 

    The inquest is now hearing evidence related to Bodmin man, Stephen Mellor, who died in the attack.

    The main road through west Cornwall has reopened following a coach crash.  

    The coach was carrying 30 children from St Ives School to a swimming gala when it left the road, crashing through a hedge ending up in a field. 

    None of the children were injured in the collision which happened between Crowlas Cross and the Newtown Roundabout.

    Cornwall Council's cabinet has given its backing to a bid for Truro to become European Capital of Culture in 2023. 

    The council says the bid, which will cost more than £500,000 is part of an ambitious plan to showcase Cornwall's "cultural and artistic talent to the globe, provide world class culture for the people of Cornwall and boost the Cornish economy by £100m".

    The woman who once ran NHS services in South Devon employed her husband to produce newsletters from his garden shed, but failed to make a declaration of interest, a court has heard. 

    Paula Vasco-Knight was chief executive of the South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, but working one day a week as head of equality and diversity, when she contracted the job to her husband's one man graphics design company. 

    The jury, at Exeter Crown Court was told her behaviour was "dishonest in the extreme" and a "massive breach of trust and abuse of her position".

    Mrs Vasco-Knight denies two counts of fraud totalling about £20,000 while chief executive of the trust.

    Her husband Stephen denies one count of fraud. 

    Habib Naqvi of Wells Road, Bristol, denies two counts of encouraging the commission of the offences. 

    The trial at Exeter Crown Court continues.

    Police say the A30 between Newtown Roundabout and Crowlas Cross remains closed after a coach carrying 30 schoolchildren crashed.

    The children from St Ives School were on their way to a swimming gala when the coach left the road. 

    Witnesses reported seeing it crash through a hedge ending up in a field. 

    The school says all the children are safe and well.

    A man killed his fiancée in a row over Christmas presents, an inquest has heard.

    Bob Broom battered Hilda Oakland, 71, over the back of her head with a scaffold pole and then strangled her with a rope wrapped around her neck twice.

    Ms Oakland's body was found in the back of an old van packed with rubbish in a field of grazing cattle, an inquest in Exeter heard.

    Broom, 66, gave himself up to police but he never went on trial because he hanged himself in jail three weeks after admitting killing her.

    An inquest in Exeter heard that the pair, both widowed, got engaged in January 2015.

    A coach carrying schoolchildren from St Ives School has crashed on the A30 near St Erth. 

    Emergency services are at the scene and the road's been closed in both directions. 

    Witnesses have described how the vehicle left the road, crashed through a hedge, and ended up in a field.

    John Mackie is one of the drivers who called BBC Radio Cornwall: "There was a lot of children climbing out of the coach and climbing over the hedge and on to the grass verge."

    The school said all the children are "safe and well".

    England women's cricket captain Heather Knight was a losing semi-finalist again as her Hobart Hurricanes side were beaten by 103 runs by the Sydney Sixers in the Women's Big Bash League in Brisbane.

    Knight, who's from Plymstock, was run out for just three runs as the Hurricanes were bowled out for 66 in 14.1 overs.

    Union Unison is taking legal action over workers who lost their jobs when the NHS 111 service in Devon was transferred from the South Western Ambulance.

    In October the company Vocare were subcontracted by Devon Doctors to take over the service. Unison says their terms and conditions should have been protected and has issued legal proceedings against all three. 

    Unison says 142 people lost their jobs when the service transferred across in October. Some were engaged by the new company Vocare on what Unison claims are less favourable terms and conditions and some were engaged by South Western Ambulance, the union says not all of them were on the same terms and conditions. 

    Unison says they should have been protected under legislation known as TUPE, external. Talks held through the arbitration service Acas failed to reach a resolution so Unison has issued legal proceedings against all three on behalf of 60 of the employees. 

    In a statement it says the workers have suffered through no fault of their own. The case is ongoing and Vocare, South Western Ambulance or Devon Doctors are yet to respond to Unison's claims.

    A 62-seater coach carrying 30 schoolchildren has crashed on the A30, Devon and Cornwall Police has said.

    The force said it believed no children had been injured.

    The coach is currently off the road and on a hedge.  

    The A30 will be closed between Newtown Roundabout and Crowlass Cross as officers attend and recover the coach.

    A replacement vehicle is on its way to collect the children.

  19. Schoolchildren in bus crash 'safe and well'published at 12:52 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2017

    Children involved in a coach crash on the A30 are "safe and well" according to their school.

    The children from St Ives School were on their way to a swimming gala when the bus veered off the road.

    The school said: "We have been told that every child is safe and well and we have sent additional staff to be with them. A replacement bus is on its way to collect them."

    The A30 is closed in both directions with emergency services on the scene.
