    This is the moment when a power cable brought down in storm-force winds in Hayle last night exploded in a shower of sparks - followed by the clear-up operation by firefighters and Western Power engineers.

    No-one was injured when the power cable was brought down in Bodriggy Street at about 03:00.

    Blake Evans, who captured the dramatic pictures said he feared a fire might break out and gathered buckets of water in readiness.

    He said that if the cable had come down during the day, someone could have been killed in the street which is used by children to get to school.

    The terrifying shower of sparks and explosions only inches from Mr Evans's house lasted for about 20 minutes before engineers from Western Power made the area safe.

    Planners have said an initial yes to a new heliport for Penzance.

    Cornwall Council has given initial approval to a plan to allow a new site to be built near the entrance to the town, on land just behind the old heliport.

    Helicopter flights to the Isles of Scilly stopped over four years ago, but a group of investors - including the owner of Tresco - wants to get the service started up again.

    The £2m project to bring back the air link with the Isles of Scilly, is expected to create about 30 permanent jobs and is due to launch in spring 2018.

    A power cable which was brought down in a shower of sparks and series of explosions in storm force winds could have killed someone if it had happened during the day, someone living close to the explosion has told the BBC.

    Blake Evans captured the dramatic incident on video and said: "There are children that use this street to get to school."

    He said he was not aware of any damage but suspected his van might have a few scratches.

    Earlier during high tide there was some overtopping in Fowey which caused some flooding.

    Storm force winds brought down an electricity cable creating a "terrifying" series of bangs and showers of sparks.

    People in Hayle, Cornwall, were woken by the fireworks-like racket at about 03:00 GMT. 

    Blake Evans, who captured the dramatic moment on video and was woken by the explosions, said: "It went on for about 20 minutes - I saw it all, inches from our bedroom window.

    "The cables came down and hit my van. 

    "There was a strong smell of burning - I was filling buckets of water in case there was a fire."

    Engineers from Western Power made the area in Bodriggy Street safe.

    Planners at Cornwall Council have said an initial yes to a new heliport for Penzance. 

    Cornwall Council has resolved to approve a plan to allow a new heliport to be built in the town on land just behind the old heliport.

    If it goes ahead there could be 17 flights a day in summer. 

    The flights stopped more than four years ago, but a group of investors - including the owner of Tresco - wants to get the service started up again.

    After six years of pursuing complaints, the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman has agreed there was a catalogue of errors in an anorexic woman's treatment by the Devon Partnership NHS Trust.

    Charlotte Robins from Devon died in 2010 aged 29 weighing the same as a small child.

    An investigation into Charlotte's death concluded "that she would have survived had the care and treatment been different".

    Charlotte's father, Andrew Robins said: "I knew she was going to die. They let Charlotte come home to her mum, and they thought this would be okay - it was not."

    The Devon Partnership NHS Trust has apologised for what it calls shortcomings in the way it originally investigated the incident. It says important changes have been made to its services.
