The mother of a teenager who shaved his head for a cancer charity says "an exception" should have been made for her son's "extreme hairstyle" instead of his being removed from classes.

His mother, Lesley, said he should not be punished for trying to help others.
She said: "Everywhere has rules, but I just think in this circumstance, they could make an exception. They could have had an assembly and recognised what Taylor had done, but pointed out that normally, this haircut wouldn't be appropriate for school."
The college said he was being given "individual specialist tuition" for four days until it grew back.
According to the college, Taylor was advised before the holiday to have his hair cut to a "very short but acceptable length" and he "went against this advice" by having it cut "extremely short in the days immediately before term began".

The jailing of a double glazing conman from Hayle reinforces a message that people should not deal with unannounced tradesmen they are unsure of, Trading Standards officers say.
Thirty-six-year-old Liam Hawkins was jailed for 38 weeks by magistrates in Truro on Tuesday after admitting three frauds were he deliberately targeted vulnerable residents, taking cash from them - in one case more than £3,000 - for work he failed to complete.
Cornwall Trading Standards said it was "particularly concerned" at the case, saying Hawkins' victims had an increased fear of crime, had lost trust in other people and suffered "anxiety and upset".
Officers added that people should "never deal with anyone who turns up at your door unannounced, no matter how convincing they may seem and no matter how tempting their special offers may sound".
Plans have been handed in to the council, external, seeking to transform an empty Exeter store into a gym.

Small businesses in Cornwall are likely to be getting a special visitor as Prime Minister Theresa May has confirmed she'll be stopping by on the campaign trail after calling a snap election for 8 June.
In the House Commons, Conservative MP for St Ives Derek Thomas called on Mrs May for more policies to help small businesses in the coming election.
She responded that she would be happy to talk to local businesses about the problems they faced.

Cornishman and Exeter Chiefs rugby player Jack Nowell says news he is a British and Irish Lions player has "not quite sunk in yet".
The Chiefs and England wing was born in Newlyn and played mini-juniors rugby for the Cornish Pirates.
He has been confirmed as a back in the British and Irish Lions 2017 team for the tour to New Zealand.
He said: "It's pretty special, not just for myself, but for my family. it's a dream for any rugby player to not just play for their country but to go on a Lions tour, so I'm very happy with that."

A teenager arrested after a stabbing at a McDonald's branch in Devon has been charged with multiple offences, police say.
The 19-year-old male was arrested on Monday after a 20-year-old man received a stab wound to his back during a fight at the Bridge Retail Park branch in Torquay (pictured) in the early hours of Monday.
Image source, GooglePolice said the teenager, from Newton Abbot - who was arrested after another alleged assault with a hammer elsewhere in Torquay - had been charged with: using violence to secure entry to premises, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of a Class B drug and possessing a knife blade/pointed article in a public place.
He was remanded in custody after appearing before magistrates in Plymouth. He is due back before the court on 8 May.
A 20-year-old man arrested at McDonald's was "released under investigation". A third man arrested after the stabbing was released without charge.

I've been spending the day on a road trip between three of the South West's key battleground areas in Devon: Exeter (the South West's sole Labour constituency), Torbay and Plymouth.
There are a number of other seats which fell to the Conservatives in 2015 that they'll also be keen to hang on to, such as St Ives, Devon North, St Austell & Newquay and Taunton Deane.
And, did you know that Torquay (pictured) was the South West Brexit capital, according to the 2016 Referendum.

An out-of-control bonfire has damaged a hedge, fence and disused garage in Cornwall, firefighters say.
Cornwall Fire Service said two crews were called to the scene at Trewoon, St Austell, at about 14:45 to extinguish it.

People in the Isles of Scilly will have to go back to being powered by generators for up to 48 hours while work is carried out to further protect the islands' recently repaired National Grid cable, utilities bosses say.
The 33,000-volt, 55km-long cable, was damaged by the anchor of an unidentified boat at the end of February. It took more than a month to repair.
Jon Nesbitt, from Western Power Distribution, said the "additional works should reduce further incidents. It would involve using 64 tonnes of gravel and three, five-tonne concrete mattresses to cover over the cable on the sea bed, about 70m (200ft) down, he added.
The work is weather-reliant, and a date has not yet been set.

Nine-year-old Uma runs a sweet stall for charity
A nine-year-old girl has set up her own miniature sweet stall.
One day Uma Calvert hopes to have a shop of her own, but for now she sells lollipops at a market. She had to get a food hygiene certificate to be able to run the sweet stand.
She is raising money for the Marie Curie charity through her stall in Launceston, Cornwall.
