    You may have needed your coat today but the sunny souls at BBC South West Weather tell us Plymouth was the warmest place in Britain.

    The city reached a heady 12 degrees in the sunshine - warmer than Paris (9C), New York (11C) and Copenhagen (4C).

    We can thank the wind chill for our cold hands and feet though..

    A grandmother who killed two female pedestrians when she dozed for a second and then pressed the accelerator rather than the brake pedal is facing a jail sentence.

    Teresa Sant, 58, has been convicted by a jury of causing death by dangerous driving of the two friends and colleagues who had just got off a bus in Torr Lane, Hartley, Plymouth.

    Plymouth Crown Court heard she was seen to "panic" by a cyclist whose bike she clipped after she mounted the kerb and struck the two colleagues.

    Victoria Hodge, 42, and 60-year-old Marie-Helene Gieblen - got off their regular number 39 bus from work and were saying their goodbyes.  

    One victim died at the scene and the other died from severe head injuries in hospital six days later without regaining consciousness.

    Sant will be sentenced tomorrow.

    Plymouth Argyle says it wants to spread a sporting initiative, which they say steers youngsters away from drink and drugs, to as many deprived areas as possible in Cornwall.

    Plymouth Argyle says its PL Kicks, external, which is backed by the Premier League, has been really successful in helping to cut crime since it was launched in Plymouth in 2008.

    It's been run in Redruth since September and Argyle said police and schools had already noticed a change for the better in the behaviour in many of the youngsters who took part.

    A locomotive which has not has moved under its own steam for about 40 years and has taken more than 20 years to restore is due to undergo testing before running on a heritage railway track later this year, its owner says.

    The Bodmin and Wenford Steam Railway said the former National Coal Board loco came to its station in 1995 after leaving service in the 1970s.

    Releasing a video of the restored engine in operation, the charity said: "She will be running here over the summer after a period of testing and running in over the coming few weeks."

    A teenager who was driving when his 16-year-old passenger died, has denied accusations he was showing off. 

    Coree Lee Amonn, 19, was accelerating in his VW Golf on Castle Drive in Falmouth when he lost control on a right hand bend, Truro Crown Court heard.

    Sophie Taylor from the town died in the crash in January 2016.

    Today Mr Amonn told the court: "I am not one to show off... I am not someone who drives like an idiot."

    He denies causing death by dangerous driving and the trial continues.

    A team of more than 30 volunteers is taking to the streets in Torbay this week to talk to rough sleepers in the area to try to help them into accommodation.

    Torbay, which has seen a spike in homelessness in the last 12 months, has joined an international campaign called End Street Homelessness.

    It is among the first areas in the country to join the campaign, which, in America, has seen 100,000 re-housed in four years.

    A grandmother has been convicted of killing two women after she dozed off at the wheel of her car.

    Teresa Sant, 58, was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving of the two friends in Plymouth last May. 

    A court heard she ploughed into Victoria Hodge, 42, and Marie-Helene Gieblen, 60, in the car she had bought four days earlier. 

    The victims had just got off a bus in Torr Lane and were saying their goodbyes when they were killed.

    A group of Devon Conservative MPs have written to the Prime Minister, asking her to do everything possible to stop the county's schools becoming worse off.

    A 19-year-old man accused of causing the death of a 16-year old girl by driving dangerously in Falmouth has told a court he does not recall being asked to slow down at the time.

    Sophie Taylor from the town died after the crash at Castle Drive in January 2016.

    Coree Lee Amonn was driving Miss Taylor and her twin sister, Aimee at speeds of over 40mph in a 30mph zone when the car collided with a concrete post and crashed, the jury heard.

    Truro Crown Court had heard Aimee had asked him to drive slower, but today the defendant said: "I do not recall her telling me to slow down at all".

    He denies causing death by dangerous driving. The trial continues.

    The town of Lostwithiel is "bereft of vital public services", its MP has claimed in Parliament.

    South East Cornwall Conservative Sheryl Murray is urging ministers to do what they can to bring back a permanent post office and bank.

    The town's branch of Lloyds Bank shut its doors as part of a national closure of branches. The Post Office, which had been based in a village store, closed when the shop shut down.

    The government is stumping up almost £1m to help develop a piece of technology in the South West that aims to cut air pollution and reward better driving.

    Developed in Exeter, Lightfoot is a gadget which sits on the dashboard and tells the driver when they're going too fast or revving too much. 

    Rewards for better driving could include deals on car insurance, breakdown cover, car finance or other incentives with partner organsiations, the Lightfoot compay said.

    It added that it hoped that going halves with the government on the investment would help create jobs as well as better drivers.

    There's been a spate of countryside fires across Cornwall after several weeks of dryer weather.

    Arson is suspected in several of the cases, and the fire brigade is investigating three incidents in St Austell.

    One particular fire, on 19 April, at Mexico Towans, external, near Hayle, was close to a holiday park and proved difficult for firefighters to reach. It left a large area of dunes badly scorched. 

    Such fires can be devastating for local wildlife, according to experts.

    A man is recovering from being stabbed in the back after an altercation inside a Cornwall pub "spilled outside", police say.

    Officers said a 28-year-old man reported being wounded in Fore Street in Torpoint at about 03:20 on Sunday. He was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, where he was "expected to remain for a two to three days", officers said. 

    He was wounded twice, but his injuries are not thought life-changing or life-threatening.

    Officers added that they had identified a suspect but no arrests had been made yet.

    The Royal Marines' 1664 Global Challenge will see different marine units take part in a relay over 100 days, with one unit handing a baton to the next after a 16.64-mile run.

    This event is raising awareness of the marines around the country, and raising funds for the RM Charity.

    It started at the Mayflower Steps in Plymouth this morning.
