    This drone footage captures the wreckage of a collapsed crane at Falmouth Docks.

    Witnesses described hearing an "enormous bang" as it collapsed on to 10 acetylene cylinders at the Cornish dockside at about 09:00 BST.

    A firefighter suffered minor injuries while assessing the scene.

    Ex-British & Irish Lions and England lock Geoff Parling will leave Exeter Chiefs this summer to join an unnamed club in Japan.

    The 33-year-old, who has 29 England caps, is out of contract at the end of the season and has agreed a short-term deal with a Japanese Top League side.

    Exeter say he is likely to then join a Super Rugby franchise in Australia.

    Parling helped Chiefs reach the Premiership final last season, and has played 22 times this term to help them reach the play-offs.

    Plymouth Argyle have released nine of the squad which helped them gain promotion from League Two, including forward Jordan Slew and Connor Smith.

    Slew, 24, cost Blackburn about £1m in 2011 and scored six times in 40 appearances for the Pilgrims.

    Striker Jimmy Spencer and midfielder Ryan Donaldson are among the other players who will leave the club.

    Midfielder Graham Carey is one of three to be offered new deals, with Luke McCormick, David Fox, Jake Jervis and Oscar Threlkeld among 11 players who will remain at Home Park.

    A cleaner has denied murdering his ex-girlfriend and said he was not jealous when she left him for another man.

    Kostadin Kostov told Exeter Crown Court he was not angry when Gergana Prodanova left him for fellow Bulgarian Tihomir Todorov.

    Mr Kostov is accused of dragging his ex-partner's body through Exeter city centre in a suitcase in August 2016.

    Mr Kostov, 43, of Mount Pleasant Road, Exeter, says he has no idea what happened to Ms Prodanova.

    A Cornish animal charity is facing closure unless it can find new premises within the next few weeks.

    Clay County Cat Care is currently based in Bugle and has treated and re-homed around 1000 felines since 2013. 

    Now it needs to relocate but wants to stay in the area so are appealing for help to anyone with premises or land to rent or buy in the Roche area. 

    Leanne Kent runs the charity and says she'd be devastated if they had to close down.

    "I've been doing this for so long, and to not be able to help cats in need would be absolutely heartbreaking," she said.

    Leeds manager Garry Monk has tweeted his support for a petition started by Torquay United fans, urging Mayor of Torbay Gordon Oliver not to sell their Plainmoor ground to the club's owners Gaming International.

    Torbay Council own the freehold of Plainmoor though Torquay chairman Clarke Osborne has expressed a desire to buy and redevelop the stadium, with plans to build a new ground for the club.

    Monk is from Torquay and made 11 appearances for the National League side as a youngster, while the petition has more than 6,500 signatures.

    Nearly half of drivers in the South West admit to speeding in 20mph areas, according to road safety charity Brake.

    In its survey, 44% of drivers admitted to driving 5mph above the limit or faster in a 20mph zone, with more men than women saying they speed.

    It's the charity's Beep Beep! Day, external, and it said it wanted drivers to slow down and be aware that children couldn't judge the speed of vehicles above 20mph.

    Exeter Chiefs flanker Julian Salvi will continue as a coach at Plymouth Albion next season.

    The 31-year-old Australian remains under contract at Sandy Park as a player but is doing his coaching badges, and has ambitions of moving into the field once he hangs up his boots.

    Roads have been re-opened and a cordon lifted after a crane collapsed at Falmouth docks this morning.

    Firefighters were called to assess gas cylinders which were damaged in the incident, with one firefighter taken to hospital with minor injuries.

    Planners have deferred a decision on flattening 18 bungalows for the elderly near Totnes.

    South Hams District Council planning committee agreed to a site visit amid a battle by seven elderly people including two 90-year-olds face to keep their 1960s bungalows.

    Campaigners say flattening the 18 bungalows at Brimhay in Dartington is "appalling" because the elderly people love their homes.

    They say flats to replace the bungalows will "urbanise" the rural area. Owners South Devon Rural (SDR) housing association say the bungalows are out of date and all long-term residents have been offered a flat.
