    A man has admitted building a homemade pipe bomb which led police to evacuate houses in North Devon when it was discovered.

    Timothy Holman, who has a history of mental illness, pleaded guilty to making an explosive substance at his home in Ilfracombe on 9 December.

    Judge Geoffrey Mercer, QC, adjourned his case until 27 June for a psychiatric report.

    The hunt for a suspected armed robber is still under way in Cornwall.

    Police say the incident is ongoing and they're trying to find a man who it's reported made off with £100 from a Spar shop in Hayle.

    Some witnesses say he was thought to have been carrying a shotgun.

    Police are now widening their operation, following searches at two addresses in the town.

    The Co-op has been fined £400,000 over the death of a man who slipped on water leaking from a faulty sandwich chiller.

    Stanley May, 74, died two days after hitting his head on the floor in the Truro branch of the supermarket in July 2015.

    Truro Crown Court heard the chiller had been faulty for 44 hours but customers could still enter the wet area.

    The Co-op previously pleaded guilty to a Health and Safety offence of failing to protect customers.

    Speaking outside court, Mr May's daughter, Victoria Parsons said: "We'd just like everybody to learn that this was so easily avoided, if they had kept an eye on that water my dad would still be alive today."

    The court heard Mr May used to visit Co-op shops most days and had previously been involved in an event to reopen their store at St Columb Road, where he lived.

    He had previously been chair of the St Enoder Parish Council and had three children and six grandchildren. His wife died a month after he passed away.

    A pedestrian has died in a road crash in east Devon, police say.

    Officers said, external the 29-year-old man from Lyme Regis suffered fatal injuries when he was hit by a green BMW 323 car on the A3052, near Ware Cross in Uplyme, at about 02:23 on Sunday. The man died at the scene.

    The driver, a 42-year-old man from Axminster, was not injured. The road was closed for nine hours for an investigation.

    Police said they are "particularly keen" to trace the driver of a small van believed to have been in the area at the time.

    A man from Cornwall has appeared in court, charged with murder after the disappearance of his partner.

    Dean Lowe, 32, from Marazion, appeared at Truro Magistrates' Court, accused of killing 32-year-old Kirby Noden (pictured).

    Ms Noden hasn't been seen by her neighbours in Marazion since January.

    Mr Lowe is due to appear at Truro Crown Court in June.

    A digger driver caused more than £100,000 damage on a building site, partly destroying a road he had helped construct, after being sacked by text message, a court heard.

    Forty-one-year-old Rory Doyle was able to go on a 24-minute wrecking spree on the site at Chivenor Cross, near Braunton, in April 2016 because he still had a set of keys for his old vehicle, Exeter Crown Court was told. He also demolished a lamp post and dug up drains.

    The court heard he was angry because he had been sacked over a dispute with his foreman, who he accused of bullying him.

    Doyle, of Waterloo Road, Torquay, admitted criminal damage and was jailed for 18 months, suspended for two years, curfewed for five months, ordered to pay £2,500 compensation, to complete 120 hours unpaid community work and to attend anger management sessions.

    Three or four springer spaniels attacked the surviving half of a couple of "celebrity" swans only a week after his mate was savaged and put down, witnesses say.

    "Mr and Mrs Swan", described as "big friends of the community", made national headlines, external for holding up the traffic as they waddled through the Cornish resort of Perranporth. However, she was killed last week and now he has been hurt in a new attack.

    Witnesses to the latest attack, on Saturday, described the dogs pinning the swan down as he tried to make his way down the beach. He was taken to be treated by the RSPCA.

    His wound is said to be superficial and the bird has been returned to his boating lake home.

    More than 13,000 Exeter City fans have purchased tickets for Sunday's Sky Bet League Two play-off final against Blackpool as of 09:30.

    Tickets for the game went on sale at noon on Friday. Exeter have a 20,000 allocation and City supporters still wanting to buy tickets are advised to do so as early as possible.

    The Grecians booked their place in the final thanks to a dramatic injury-time winner from Jack Stacey (pictured) on Thursday night, which gave them a 6-5 aggregate victory over Carlisle United.

    That win has set up the match with Blackpool at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 28 May for a place in League One next season and demand for tickets from City supporters has been high.

    A police hunt is again continuing for a man on the run following an apparent armed robbery in Hayle.

    The robbery happened at about 07:45 when a man wearing a helmet entered the Spar shop and claimed to have a shotgun. It's thought he made off with about £100 in cash. No-one was injured.

    Police had said earlier they had located him, but then issued a further statement saying they were "continuing enquiries to locate the suspect" and the suspect was "still outstanding".

    The Co-op has been fined £400,000 after a man died after slipping on water that leaked from a faulty sandwich chiller.

    Stanley May, 74, died after hitting his head on the floor in the Truro branch of Co-op supermarket in July 2015.

    Truro Crown Court heard the chiller had been faulty for 44 hours but customers had not been stopped from entering the area.

    The Co-operative Group Ltd previously pleaded guilty of failing to protect customers under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

    The court heard a statement from Christopher Whitfield, retail and logistics director at the Co-operative Group in which he said: "He [Mr May] should have been kept safe while walking in our store. It is a matter of utmost regret that he was not."

    The company also has to pay costs of £50,000.
