    Students at the region's universities and colleges are being encouraged to register to vote in the general election ahead of the deadline which is midnight tonight.

    Less than half of 18 to 24-year-olds voted in the last general election and there's been a campaign to get more of them to register this time.

    Eligible voters have until 23:59 to register online through the official website, external.

    More than two million people have joined the register in the month since Theresa May revealed there would be a snap election on 8 June.

    Seven weeks of work start today on the Saltash Tunnel in Cornwall.

    Highways England said there would be lane closures and some overnight closures this week while engineers upgraded fibre optic cables on the main route between Plymouth and Cornwall.

    The A38 will also be closed between the Carkeel roundabout and the tunnel with diversions in place. The work is due to finish on 10 June.

    Another year and another trip to Twickenham for the Cornwall rugby team.

    The Black and Gold beat Hertfordshire 48-25 over the weekend to book their place in the County Championship final. It's the fifth year in a row that Cornwall have reached Twickenham.

    Head coach Graham Dawe said his team had a winning team spirit.

    He said: "This is a good team, a fresh young team. They certainly know how to play for each other and they defend like a bunch of tigers. All credit to them."

    Police are hunting for a man on the run following an armed robbery in Hayle.

    The town's Spar shop and the area surrounding it have been cordoned off after a man wearing a helmet entered the Spar shop at about 07:45, claiming to have a shotgun.

    It's thought he made off with about £100 in cash. No-one was injured.

    Devon and Cornwall Police said Station Hill had been cordoned off and there were about 20 police officers at the scene. At least one police dog has also been deployed, pictures on social media show.

    The force said the priority was to find the man and make sure everyone was safe.

    Nearby Hayle Community College said it had been contact with the police, but was not on lockdown despite reports.

    A police inspector says a multi-agency crackdown on street drinking in Truro could be mirrored in towns and cities across the South West.

    Rick Milburn said up to 20 of the daily calls for police help in the city - about 40% - used to be the result of alcohol. He said that had been cut to about 5%, and, over a recent weekend, there were none at all.

    The inspector said a campaign, Truro Safe, involving different organisations, had been very effective.

    However, some street drinkers say they're just being hidden away.

    Devon-based five-time Olympian Jo Pavey has missed a chance to qualify for the World Championships in London after finishing fourth in the British 10,000m trials.

    Rio 2016 Olympian Beth Potter, 25, booked her place by winning the Night of 10,000m PBs event in Hampstead in a time of 32 minutes four seconds.

    Pavey, 43, who needed to claim a top-two finish, finished behind third-placed Katrina Wootton, and clocked 32:43.

    She said: "It was tough. Realistically it was always going to be a gamble. I thought 'it's a trial, why not give it a go?' It is hard to know where to go from here but I haven't given up on the idea of qualifying yet."

    Exeter have reached their second Premiership final in a row after scoring a late try, and dashing Saracens' hopes of consecutive domestic and European titles at the same time.

    Sam Simmonds was forced over as the clock wound down to deny Sarries, who beat Clermont to win the Champions Cup last Saturday, in a tense semi-final.

    Jack Nowell's try put Chiefs ahead after it was 6-6 at half-time, but Chris Wyles' try brought Saracens back.

    Mike Ellery put Sarries in front on 76 minutes, before Simmonds' heroics.

    The last-gasp victory gained revenge for Exeter, who had lost out to Saracens in their first Premiership final 12 months ago, while extending the Chiefs' unbeaten league run to 16 matches.

    A man from Leicester has been charged with assaulting two police officers after becoming violent during an incident in Newquay over the weekend, police say.

    Officers said the man was stopped in a vehicle at about 13:00 on Saturday because he was suspected of committing driving offences. He was shot with a Taser by officers when he became "extremely violent" during his arrest, they added.

    The 25-year-old is due to appear in court next month on charges of assault, possession of drugs and motoring offences, police said.

    His vehicle was seized.

    The clock is ticking down on the deadline for registering to vote in the 2017 general election.

    Eligible voters have until 23:59 BST to register online through the official website, external.

    More than two million people have joined the register in the month since Theresa May revealed there would be a snap election on 8 June.

    The highest number of applications so far was on 18 April - the day the prime minister made her announcement.

    The latest official figures published in March show that 45.7m people were registered to vote in a general election as of 1 December 2016.

    Thirty-two-year-old Kirby Noden (pictured) hasn't been seen by neighbours in Marazion since January.

    Dean Lowe, 32, from Marazion, was arrested last week by officers investigating her disappearance. He is due to appear in court later.
